In honor of Black History Month, our Black Employee Network (BEN) hosted an inspiring discussion on 'Advancing Diversity in the Veterinary Profession' with Dr. Annie Daniel, founder of the National Association for Black Veterinarians (NABV) and CEO of the Institute for Healthcare Education Leadership and Professionals - IHELP. Dr. Daniel shared her journey, the mission and vision of NABV, and insights on the evolution of Black professionals in veterinary medicine, as well as ways to pave the way for future generations. The NABV focuses on recruitment, scholarships, mentorship, and support networks while fostering a diverse, inclusive community for Black veterinarians. A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Daniel for spending the afternoon with MedVet caregivers, sharing her story, and engaging in such a meaningful conversation. MedVet is proud to sponsor NABV’s conference this June in New Orleans! Learn more or register to attend at https://hubs.la/Q038h3tB0.

Our Social Work team is not only supporting MedVet clients through difficult times, they’re also advancing the field of Veterinary Social Work through research. 📚 We’re proud to share that our team, led by Elizabeth Knudsen and Laurie Maxwell, LCSW, contributed to the recently published research article, "The Role and Scope of Practice of Veterinary Social Workers in Animal Shelters," featured in Pets — an international, peer-reviewed, open access journal on companion animals published by MDPI. Collaborating with Dr. Aviva Vincent (Cleveland State University) and Dr. mary rauktis (University of Pittsburgh), they conducted a survey series titled "Current Practices in Veterinary Social Work" to assess this growing field, identify trends, and explore opportunities for further research. Their work is helping shape the future of Veterinary Social Work, ensuring more comprehensive support for both pets and the people who love them. 👏 Read the full article here: https://hubs.la/Q03770sp0
