Pathways to parenthood through surrogacy for gay men worldwide

About us

The international nonprofit Men Having Babies (MHB) is dedicated to providing gay men with educational and financial support to achieve parenthood through surrogacy. Each year, over two thousand attendees benefit from unbiased guidance and access to a wide range of relevant service providers at monthly workshops, virtual events, and conferences worldwide. The organization’s Gay Parenting Assistance Program (GPAP) annually provides hundreds of couples with over a million dollars worth of cash grants, discounts and free services from over seventy providers. Our Membership Benefits Program (MBP) offers a wide range of peer guidance options and access to exclusive discounts from surrogacy providers. MHB's Advisory Board of leading surrogacy professionals provides valuable input to improve our programs and leads the provision of expert advice to members. Our framework for Ethical Surrogacy has received endorsements from LGBT parenting organizations worldwide. MHB’s extensive online resources include a directory with ratings and reviews of agencies and clinics, FAQs, a video library, Ask the Expert articles, and a comprehensive surrogacy and gay parenting research library.

  • The 2nd Annual MHB Atlanta takes place in a month and it's time to take a minute to thank our Platinum Sponsors, Family Formers and Victory Reproductive Care Teresa (Family Formers) Rockey, CEO of Family Formers, said: MHB conferences are the perfect venue for Intended Parents to gather knowledge, obtain guidance, and make connections with professionals for their family building journey to be a success." Dr. Rahi Victory said: "It's amazing to see how many people are in need of both the education and the assistance that Men Having Babies provides. I think there's no better way to effectively help in that process than to be part of the conference and provide as much guidance and assistance as possible." • The term "Independent Journey" means: without the help of full services from a surrogacy agency. Skipping the full agency fee can help with the overall costs of the journey - but it also means that you will have to be able to do all the work yourself. We're going to have a whole session dedicated to Independent Journey during our upcoming MHB Conference in Atlanta: https://lnkd.in/gDC4WR4e Single dad BJ who went through the journey independently (and will speak in the Singles Session in the upcoming Atlanta conference) explained the challenge in his surrogacy: "Going through it alone meant that I would have to select the doctor and the lawyers and do tons of research that led it to become a very overwhelming process after doing months of research on the whole process itself," BJ tells us. "I had to take time to find the right lawyer who would take on my case with no problem that was also affordable for the budget as I know I was paying for this all by myself to also selecting the doctor that was going to do the transfers and making sure that I felt comfortable with how they would communicate with me as this was something that was sensitive." "Also, the screening of the surrogate is very important - I had to make sure that the surrogate was in a mental state to be able to handle what was about to happen and I that there was nothing that would make me or her feel uncomfortable." For single dads, independent journey is obviously even more challenging. "Of course, with the help of my family for the emotional support I was able to make it through," BJ says, "but it was very rough throughout the process, knowing that at the end I had gone through this process alone." • We are SO excited about this milestone!! We are thrilled to announced that Gay Parenting Assistance Program (GPAP) Stage II has brought 100 babies to the world! Babies whose dads couldn’t afford to become parents without MHB’s help. The 100th baby was born just a few weeks ago in California and you can read the story of the dads and what was the process like receiving the assistance from MHB: https://lnkd.in/g5eMsn2Y It's important to note that though this is the 100th baby born with the large-scope help of GPAP Stage II - there are a few hundreds that were born with the help of stage I (that helps with providing large discounts from participating providers). Learn more about our financial assistance program at https://lnkd.in/gu7tDzV6 🙏 Men Having Babies would like to thank San Diego Fertility CenterSurrogateFirst and the Law Offices of Gregory S. Masler for providing pro-bono services to help grow this family. 🙏 #menhavingbabies #gaydads #surrogacy #nonprofit #lgbtcharity #lgbtq

  • Looking back at 2024 - this year we had some legislation accomplishments: Since 2020, MHB has been advocating for a change in the definition of 'Infertility' to include anyone who's “unable to reproduce either as an individual or with their partner without medical intervention.” This new definition is already helping expand eligibility for our community to IVF insurance coverage, that translate to thousands of dollars saved in overall journey costs. This year we helped to add California and New Jersey to the list of the states who made this new definition into a law. In addition, the Michigan Family Building Act passed, legalizing and regulating compensated surrogacy. Check out the legislation tracker on our website to see which states are (hopefully) coming next: https://lnkd.in/grEVhkY9 Learn more about Fertility Equality and our efforts: https://lnkd.in/g2RDETyy #menhavingbabies #gaydads #surrogacy #lgbtqcommunity #nonprofit #2024reportcard

  • As 2024 draws to its close, we are proud to look back at our work and accomplishments. This year we launched the Employer Benefit Database! A growing number of employers offer family building benefits ranging from $10,000 to $80,000 (and beyond) towards adoption, fertility treatments and surrogacy. To encourage more employers to offer such benefits, we developed an advanced searchable database of companies that offer benefits to support LGBTQ+ family formation, and we are adding dozens of employers monthly. The new tool was launched combined with a web and social media campaign featuring community members who received significant workplace benefits. Check out the database, and the highlights of the campaign here: https://lnkd.in/gHvPSNFW Looking ahead to 2025, we are developing a unique toolkit to help men advocate for benefits at companies that do not currently offer inclusive benefits, or whose benefits do not apply to surrogacy, or whose benefits exclude overseas employees. #menhavingbabies #gaydads #surrogacy #lgbtqcommunity #nonprofit #2024reportcard
