Mental Health Care

The UK's first charity dedicated to funding mental health research to develop better treatments with fewer side-effects

About us

The first UK charity dedicated to funding research into the causes of mental illness in order to develop better treatments with fewer side-effects. We offer funding to Universities in the UK which apply to us when we advertise with respect to a particular diagnosis. The applicants with the best projects are shortlisted and interviewed by our independent scientific advisory board, and the winning University then advertises a Ph.D scholarship and seeks the best student. To date, we have offered 25 doctoral scholarships for 3 years, worth £120,000 each. We aim to make a long-term difference to people's lives, and to capacity-build in the UK in mental health research. Unlike many charities, we pledge to give at least 95% of all funds raised to our cause. We have no physical building and no employees - all Trustees work pro bono. Co-founding Trustees: Professor Clair Chilvers, Dr. Laura Davidson, and John Grace QC. @MHRUKcharity
