Mental Health Research UK
Mental Health Care
The UK's first charity dedicated to funding mental health research to develop better treatments with fewer side-effects
About us
The first UK charity dedicated to funding research into the causes of mental illness in order to develop better treatments with fewer side-effects. We offer funding to Universities in the UK which apply to us when we advertise with respect to a particular diagnosis. The applicants with the best projects are shortlisted and interviewed by our independent scientific advisory board, and the winning University then advertises a Ph.D scholarship and seeks the best student. To date, we have offered 25 doctoral scholarships for 3 years, worth £120,000 each. We aim to make a long-term difference to people's lives, and to capacity-build in the UK in mental health research. Unlike many charities, we pledge to give at least 95% of all funds raised to our cause. We have no physical building and no employees - all Trustees work pro bono. Co-founding Trustees: Professor Clair Chilvers, Dr. Laura Davidson, and John Grace QC. @MHRUKcharity

The importance of this day cannot be understated, as schizophrenia is still poorly understood, with major negative impacts on those affected, family and friends. There is a pressing need for more research to better understand the underlying causes, and to develop new, more effective, and acceptable treatments. So today we stand with those affected, and share in the hope of providing a better future for individuals with schizophrenia. MHRUK runs the Schizophrenia Research Fund for this purpose. The fund covers research across the spectrum, including social, psychological and biological factors. We fund innovative research that will make a difference and give hope to people affected by mental health conditions. If you would like to learn more about some of the projects our scholars are undertaking, please visit our website. Our goal is to fund 5 PhDs every year, and every donation counts in achieving this. If you would like to help us improve the lives of those with schizophrenia, then you can donate here: https://lnkd.in/d6axXFeJ #NSAD2024 #schizophrenia #schizophreniaresearch #psychosis #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #hallucinations #delusions #mentalhealthresearch
