Building Stronger Communities
About us
Merit is the general contractor of choice throughout Iowa communities. We're known for bringing experience and leadership to every building project. We provide services in general contracting, construction management, design-build, pre-construction, project management and safety. We have vast experience in new construction, remodeling and renovation. For nearly four decades, our buildings have been as much a part of Iowa's landscape as cornfields and cows. We don't just build in Iowa; we live in Iowa. We raise our families here and we donate our time, money and energy to the wonderful organizations that make our communities great. Merit employees are involved hands-on with Boy Scouts of America, Rotary International, Salvation Army, Friendship Force International, youth sports, American Red Cross, National Association of Women in Construction, and Special Olympics of Iowa, just to name a few. We deliver quality results on time and within budget. We develop an understanding of each client's goals to help them arrive at the best value decisions for their investment. We manage the construction process by assembling a team of local professionals that consistently adds value, controls costs and maintains quality throughout design, construction and beyond. We're experienced, responsive and community-minded. We're already your neighbor. Now we'd like to be your builder. Our areas of expertise include office buildings, churches, schools, medical and assisted living facilities, colleges, retail centers, recreation facilities and hotels/motels.

Big news! Elias Schroeder has been promoted to Project Executive at Merit Construction. Elias has done a fantastic job leading projects as a Project Manager since joining our team in 2023. We can't wait to see him achieve more great things in his new role. Congrats, Elias! #meritconstruction

Each quarter, our team at Merit Construction participates in a Kindness Surge, where employees vote on a charity to support through donations, volunteer work, or in-kind contributions. This quarter, we were proud to donate to The Village Community, an organization making a meaningful impact in our community. Marketing and Engagement Manager Darby Winger had the honor of presenting the donation and connecting with many of the amazing individuals The Village Community serves. It’s opportunities like these that remind us how important it is to give back and make a difference. Together, we’re building stronger communities—one act of kindness at a time! Merit was delighted to welcome Safety Sarah from TrueNorth last Friday, although she looked a bit different! She wanted to remind us how to stay safe this winter. With icy conditions just around the corner, it’s time to walk like a penguin to stay safe on slippery surfaces. Winter-related slips, trips, and falls cause more than 1 million injuries annually in the U.S. No one wants to be part of that statistic so let’s waddle! Thank you, Sarah Allender for this fun reminder!
