The Premier Global Legal Network
About us
Meritas is a global alliance of independent, full-service law firms with the highest quality standards for membership in the industry. In 1990, lawyer Leon Steinberg created Meritas in response to a need: He was frustrated by the difficulty of finding and hiring qualified, local counsel. And he was disappointed by the lack of quality control in firms outside his jurisdiction. Steinberg developed a rigorous system for evaluating law firm performance and launched the global legal network that is Meritas. Over the years, Meritas has carefully vetted and invited select, like-minded firms to join the non-profit alliance for mutual benefit. Today, there are more than 180 Meritas law firms worldwide in over 80 countries. Firms become members through invitation. To maintain membership, they agree to perform against Meritas’ uniquely comprehensive Quality Assurance Program, ensuring that clients receive the same high-quality legal work and service from every Meritas firm. The Meritas model provides essential peace of mind for business owners, in-house counsel and others who can easily connect with carefully qualified, independent business legal expertise worldwide.

Navigating Brazil’s tax system can be complex, with federal, state, and municipal tiers imposing various taxes, duties, and levies. However, it also presents advantages for foreign investors—such as the absence of taxes on dividends distributed by Brazilian companies, regardless of the shareholder’s residency. Additionally, Brazil has entered into multiple tax treaties to avoid double taxation on income. The Brazil chapter, contributed by Fabiana Bruno Solano Pereira and the team at Felsberg Advogados (São Paulo, Brazil), offers key insights alongside contributions from Meritas member firms across 24 other markets in the newly updated "Latin America & the Caribbean: A Legal Guide for Business Investment & Expansion." 📖 Explore the guide here: https://lnkd.in/gUeRDSsM #MeritasLAC #IndependentButUnited #WeAreMeritas #ForeignInvestment
