About us
MAPA was created in 1967 under the terms of an interlocal agreement to provide a forum for coordinating local planning and development activities. As an organization of local governments, we exist to help member governments address problems that are regional in scope and may cross jurisdictional boundaries. We perform multimodal transportation planning and collaborate with local governments and public agencies on community planning. We bring local government officials from across the region together to address mutual and overlapping concerns in the areas of transportation, solid and hazardous waste, community and economic growth and development, air quality, energy and data. We also work to promote and preserve the public health, safety and welfare of the citizens in the MAPA region. Learn more at: mapacog.org/about/what-is-mapa/

MAPA is issuing a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to develop a Community Comprehensive Safety Action Plan for Iowa Regional Planning Affiliations (RPA) 13 and 18. The Comprehensive Safety Action Plan will focus on seven rural communities located within the RPA boundaries: Atlantic, Clarinda, Glenwood, Harlan, Missouri Valley, Red Oak, and Shenandoah, Iowa. It will prioritize strategies that maximize opportunities for discretionary funding to implement local roadway projects in rural and disadvantaged communities. The goal is to reduce deaths and serious injuries on the region’s roadways to zero by 2040. Consulting firms are invited to submit a statement of qualifications. The RPA-13 and 18 Community Comprehensive Safety Action Plan Request for Qualifications (RFQ) can be found at mapacog.org/about/rfp-rfq or by contacting MAPA via email at transportation@mapacog.org or by calling MAPA at 402-444-6866. Proposals must be submitted to MAPA by 4:30 p.m. CST on January 7, 2025.

It was an honor to participate in the World Day of Remembrance to remember those lost far too soon because of traffic fatalities. These senseless losses drive our Safe Streets for All project. The goal of Safe Streets for All is to reduce crashes resulting in fatalities and serious injuries to zero by 2040. This project aligns with Omaha's Vision Zero plan. Help us develop our Comprehensive Safety Action Plan by pinpointing locations which need traffic safety improvements. Take our survey: mapacog.org/projects/ss4a #trafficsafety #SS4A
Thank you to everyone who joined us in honoring the lives lost too soon to road traffic crashes during World Day of Remembrance. Together, we're making a difference.
