MAPA is issuing a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to develop a Community Comprehensive Safety Action Plan for Iowa Regional Planning Affiliations (RPA) 13 and 18. The Comprehensive Safety Action Plan will focus on seven rural communities located within the RPA boundaries: Atlantic, Clarinda, Glenwood, Harlan, Missouri Valley, Red Oak, and Shenandoah, Iowa. It will prioritize strategies that maximize opportunities for discretionary funding to implement local roadway projects in rural and disadvantaged communities. The goal is to reduce deaths and serious injuries on the region’s roadways to zero by 2040. Consulting firms are invited to submit a statement of qualifications. It was an honor to participate in the World Day of Remembrance to remember those lost far too soon because of traffic fatalities. These senseless losses drive our Safe Streets for All project. The goal of Safe Streets for All is to reduce crashes resulting in fatalities and serious injuries to zero by 2040. This project aligns with Omaha's Vision Zero plan. We’re taking public comments on an amendment to our FY2025 Transportation Improvement Program. The amendment adds various regional transportation projects and adjusts funding for others. The amendment adds 18 projects to the plan and updates construction costs for 13 projects already in the plan as well as a few project descriptions and anticipated federal funding.
