Sonic Days 2024 was an extraordinary celebration of sound, bringing together nearly 600 guests from around the globe in Kolding, Denmark for three days filled with inspiration and innovation. With over 100 sessions, workshops, and demos, attendees explored the vast landscape of audio, from soundscapes to game audio, live sound, podcasting, and film sound. Notable speakers like Greg Price, Head of Audio/ Front of House Mixing Engineer for Metallica, and Lars Liliengren, head of production at the Roskilde Festival, enriched the event with their expertise and insights. We are grateful to have participated in this incredible gathering of students, industry professionals, and audio enthusiasts, which showcased the boundless possibilities of sound, sparking creativity and advancing the art and science of audio in exciting new directions.

Allman Betts Family Revival wrapped a 19-stop USA tour at the iconic San Francisco venue The Fillmore on Dec 21. What has become an annual tradition to celebrate the music of the Allman Brothers Band led by Devon Allman and Duane Betts, sons of original members Gregg Allman and Dickey Betts. The touring show relied on Meyer Sound MJF-208 stage monitors that went on the road to stops at legendary venues around the country. Devon once again specified the Meyer Sound wedges for the tour. “Absolute best in the biz!,” he said about the Meyer Sound touring wedges after wrapping in San Francisco. The Fillmore features a house system anchored by our perfect pair of PANTHER large-format linear line array loudspeakers and 2100-LFC low-frequency control elements, making the tour finale a true Meyer Sound showcase. Nathan Gilberg, FOH engineer and production manager on the tour, shares his experience working with Meyer Sound solutions, “We’ve been using Meyer monitors for all 8 years of the Allman Betts Family Revival shows and across the board they’re a crowd pleaser and a problem solver. On a crowded stage they stay out of the way of pedalboards and squeeze onto packed risers. Our “People Behind the Product” series celebrates the incredible individuals who make up our diverse #MeyerSound team worldwide. We are thrilled to introduce Merlijn van Veen, our Senior Technical Support & Education Specialist. Merlijn is dedicated to empowering others through education, ensuring our clients and partners have the knowledge and support they need to excel. To get to know Merlijn better, we asked him a few questions about his work at Meyer Sound and his life beyond the office. Question: What is your favorite Meyer Sound memory? Answer: Roskilde Festival is special due to Meyer Sound’s involvement as the official sound partner. This synergetic relationship fosters ever-increasing audio quality with each edition of the festival by empowering close collaboration among all stakeholders, as well as within the Meyer Sound team. Participation has become an annual highlight. To then experience the audience’s reaction in return, led to many goosebump moments and sometimes even shedding a tear. Q: What was your first job? A: Audio engineer for state-owned Dutch Broadcasting Company doing TV sound. Q: What book is on your bedside table? A: "God Emperor of Dune" by Frank Herbert. I read the book series once when I was young. But with Villeneuve's recent movies, I felt the desire to remind myself again of how the story continues. Q: What does a perfect day off look like for you? A: Family breakfast, playing one or more board games with my wife and daughter, eat out, and then cozy up on the couch for a nice movie. Q: What is an achievement you are proud of? A: Following in the footsteps of my mentors and having the profound honor of now being their (as well as all the other great minds at Meyer Sound) colleague. Q: What is your favorite gift you’ve given someone? A: Knowledge. To quote George Bernard Shaw ""If you have an apple and I have an apple and we exchange apples then you and I will still each have one apple. But if you have an idea and I have an idea and we exchange these ideas, then each of us will have two ideas."
