🌊 Celebrating the Grand Reopening of an Iconic Miami-Dade Beach 🌴 Today, we marked a significant milestone with the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the revitalized 9.6-acre beach along the Rickenbacker Causeway. This project goes beyond aesthetics—it’s a testament to our commitment to safety, sustainability, and preserving our natural treasures. A long successful journey for Lin Li that carried this project from Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces all the way to Miami-Dade County DTPW. The upgrades include: ✅ Improved parking for easier access. ✅ Protected pedestrian and bike lanes, ensuring safe, eco-friendly recreation. ✅ Enhanced infrastructure designed to keep water out of the bay, reducing runoff and protecting marine ecosystems. These improvements not only create a more enjoyable experience for residents and visitors but also help safeguard Biscayne Bay, a vital part of our community’s environmental and economic health. North Hobie Island Beach is officially open! Today, we celebrated the grand reopening of this stunning 9.6-acre beach along the Rickenbacker Causeway with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony. The revitalized beach now features improved parking, protected pedestrian and bike lanes, and enhanced infrastructure focused on safety and sustainability. Together, they work closely to empower individuals with different abilities, providing them with opportunities to achieve independence, contribute to society, and realize their fullest potential. This work is more than transportation; it’s about creating connections, fostering inclusion, and supporting the dreams of those we serve. For nearly three decades, Maria Valencia has been a lifeline for those who use Miami-Dade County DTPW Special Transportation Services (STS). As a Customer Service Agent at the STS reservation call center, she helps more than 100 people schedule their trips every day. Her work is impressive on its own, but what makes her story truly remarkable is that Maria is blind and relies on STS herself to live an independent and productive life. Maria’s connection to STS runs deep. When her vision began to decline, she turned to the service to help her get around. Since 1999, Garnetta “Apple” Bell has been a driving force in Miami-Dade County DTPW. Starting as a Professional Bus Operator, she rose through the ranks building a reputation for expertise, dedication and leadership. Today, Apple oversees critical DTPW programs such as the Corporate Discount Program and EASY Card Retail Sales Outlets while leading a team of four Project Managers. Her strategic leadership and collaborative spirit have been instrumental in advancing the department’s mission to deliver safe, efficient, and equitable public transportation.
