Mila's Keeper

I am so excited to see this well deserved recognition for Lara Vu, founder of Mila’s Keeper. I first had the pleasure to work with Lara last summer on a campaign, to raise awareness of the need for donor milk bank donations across the country. Lara’s giant heart and passion to help others is empowering women and bridging gaps in society.💞 While working overseas for UNICEF, Lara noticed working moms had no safe place to store their milk, and as a working mama herself, she knew what this meant - possibly the end to their breastfeeding journey. Lara saw a problem and created a solution, and Mila's Keeper was born.👏🏽 Her beautifully designed milk coolers are innovative, eco-friendly, multipurpose, TSA-friendly, lead-free, and the list goes on! This company gives back to the community and charitable organizations, and truly has a heart of gold. I am so proud of my friend! 🎉

We're excited about the recent study led by Deanna Nardella, MD, from Yale School of Medicine demonstrating that moms who pump on average breastfeed 5 months longer than those who don't! This is the first study of its kind measuring the impact of pumping and breastfeed duration. Studies like these are important as we continue to identify the solutions to overcome the barriers and challenges to exclusively breastfeeding for 6 months, which currently stands at less than 25% in the US. This is a far cry from the WHO 2025 global goal of reaching a rate of 50% exclusive breastfeeding. We are eager for more studies to gain deeper understanding of the "pump culture" and support needed around pumping to promote higher rates of breastfeeding for the US and globally. Proud to fulfill Mila’s Keeper mission to serve parents of ALL socioeconomic status, as a vendor partner for the first time (and not the last!) at the National WIC (Women, infant and Children) Conference in Chicago at their 50th Anniversary! WIC, a federally funded program in the US, provides supplemental foods, health care referrals, and nutrition education for low-income pregnant, breastfeeding, and non-breastfeeding postpartum women, and to infants and children up to age 5 who are found to be at nutritional risk.

What would it look like if we paused women’s work for one day? Today we are joining Paid Leave for All and 70 other businesses to send a message to congress: it’s time to pass paid leave! Paid leave impacts all of us, but it’s women and women of color, who have felt it the most. The U.S. is one of the only countries in the world that does not have a basic care policy or guarantee paid leave of any kind. But this needs to change!
