It is disheartening to see Party City closing down. It reminds me of how quickly industries are shifting. Staff were told they will not receive severance pay, and they were told their benefits would end as the company goes out of business. But where some see endings, I see opportunity. Entrepreneurs are the real game-changers. Over the last decade, 40% of Fortune 500 companies have been replaced by bold entrepreneurs who are solving problems, and moving at a lightening fast pace. Small businesses, which make up 99.9% of U.S. businesses, are the backbone of our economy. For 13+ years, I’ve been working nationwide to empower entrepreneurs, connect them with resources, and bring their voices into corporate and government spaces. The message is clear…public-private partnerships are the key to real innovation and impact. This is how we drive change, create jobs, and strengthen communities. Last Friday was an amazing night for the Black Chamber of Arizona! The Pinnacle Awards Gala evening was filled with masquerade glamour, an inspiring keynote presentation by US Black Chamber President & CEO Ron Busby, Sr., special community remarks by City of Tempe Mayor Corey Woods, an important presentation about Black-owned businesses from The State of Black Arizona, and celebration of honorees (more detail below)... all emceed under the deft and dynamic hand of Angela Yee (host of the nationally syndicated show, Way Up). A special shout out goes to the Small Business (SEDI) Grant Award winners (a program sponsored by Wells Fargo, in partnership with Millionaire Mastermind Academy) who attended as our guests - congratulations to you all!
