Stress is a slow burn, often masked or obscured, until it’s a moment of crisis. In #cybersecurity, the daily stresses can lead to coping mechanisms, bad “habits” that can quickly transform into addictions. Executive Director George Kamide spoke to Deb Radcliff at CSO Online: “We must start thinking about people and culture. CISOs need a healthy way to reduce the noise, the screaming in the back of their minds.” https://lnkd.in/e5q9FbRN

Valuable new paper is out on the value of creating safe and just cultures for better risk reporting 👇
Ex-Cybercrime prosecutor & ex-UN crisis management planner Helping Executives prepare for cyber crises | Keynote Speaker
🚨𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐲𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐢𝐬𝐤 – 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐋𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐏𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐝!🚨 Cybersecurity is as much about 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 as it is about 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲. And research shows that more than two-thirds of cyber attacks involve non-malicious human errors. So understanding and managing 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐛𝐞𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐫 is key to effectively mitigating cyber risk. So I am thrilled to share with you my recently published article which I co-authored with the brilliant Öykü Işık and Si Pavitt in 𝘾𝙮𝙗𝙚𝙧 𝙎𝙚𝙘𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙮: 𝘼 𝙋𝙚𝙚𝙧-𝙍𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙚𝙬𝙚𝙙 𝙅𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙡: "𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐢𝐭𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐌𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐲𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐢𝐬𝐤: 𝐀𝐝𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐨-𝐁𝐞𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬" If you are interested in the role of human behaviour and organisational culture in cybersecurity, I hope you'll give it a read! We offer 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐡 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 on how business and security leaders can 𝐚𝐝𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐜𝐲𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 through three critical, yet often overlooked, socio-behavioural factors: 1️⃣ 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐬 🗣 How the language we use — especially militaristic metaphors — shapes decision-making, risk perception, and our collective approach to cyber threats. 2️⃣ 𝐏𝐬𝐲𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 🏅 The importance of fostering a "just culture" that encourages transparent risk reporting and cultivates leadership that promotes organisational resilience. 3️⃣ 𝐒𝐡𝐢𝐟𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐛𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 📋 Moving beyond blame-centric approaches (like traditional phishing tests) to build a culture of accountability and proactive risk management. For 𝐂𝐈𝐒𝐎𝐬, 𝐞𝐱𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬, this article provides fresh, 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 to integrate into your 𝐜𝐲𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐬 — to 𝐞𝐧𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 and 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤. 📖 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞: https://lnkd.in/g5uUD4UT #CyberSecurity #ExecutiveLeadership #CISO #CEO #Security #CyberRiskManagement #HumanRiskManagement #HumanFactor #CyberResilience #OrganisationalCulture #PsychologicalSafety Jordon Kelly Brendan Ellis Shalom Bublil Maria Cristina Freitas George Kamide James Rees Sarb S.
