🇪🇺 🚀 The journey toward a comprehensive #EU strategy for #startups and #scaleups has begun! On February 17, European Commissioner Ekaterina Zaharieva convened a Think Tank of 50 experts in #Brussels to tackle the challenges and opportunities for scaling innovation across Europe. Among these were 5 Italian representatives, including our Chairman, Alberto Onetti, who proudly participated on behalf of Mind the Bridge, together with Danila De Stefano, founder e CEO di Unobravo, Luigi Amati, presidente di Business Angels Europe, Jacopo Losso, direttore generale di EBAN - European Business Angel Network, and Enrico Noseda, Chief Innovation Advisor di Cariplo Factory. 🎯 The goal of this Forum was to identify obstacles and propose actionable solutions that will form the foundation of the EU Startup and Scaleup Strategy, set to be released later this year. As Commissioner Zaharieva stated: “This is Europe’s moment of truth—it’s time to be disruptive and ambitious.” While Europe leads the world in the number of early-stage #startups—boasting over 35,000—the funding gap compared to the U.S. remains a significant challenge, especially when it comes to scaling beyond early investment rounds. Key areas of focus include: • Reducing #bureaucratic hurdles • Enhancing access to #financing and #talents • Advancing #regulatory harmonization across the EU ⏳ The public consultation is now open for a month—it’s time to make our voices heard and help shape the future of European innovation. Let’s contribute, not just complain later! 😉 European Commission #OpenInnovation #PolicyMaking
In October, I promised to create a platform where founders and key innovation stakeholders can engage with the European Commission. Today, I am thrilled to announce the launch of the European Startups and Scaleups Forum, along with a public consultation open for the next four weeks https://lnkd.in/dUkqKjet. This Forum aims to identify obstacles and propose solutions that will form the foundation of the EU Strategy on Startups and Scaleups. As a politician and a European, I believe our best path forward is inspired by the experiences of those who face the challenges and triumphs of launching innovative companies in Europe. Our mission is clear: empower these startups with the resources they need to thrive. Over the past six years, more startups have been founded in the EU than in the US. Yet, they lack the necessary conditions for growth within the EU. It's time to change that. This is Europe’s moment of truth—it’s time to be disruptive and ambitious. We must ask ourselves how to enhance private investment, including venture capital, into European startups. We need to ensure that both European and international talent contribute to "Made in Europe" innovation. And we must reduce regulatory fragmentation to facilitate growth in the Single Market. These are just some of the critical questions we'll address. Your input during this consultation will be invaluable as we work to create a bold and innovative future for Europe.

🚀 Women in Tech: A Turning Point? For too long, the gender gap in #entrepreneurship—especially in #tech and #startups—has been a persistent issue. But is the tide finally shifting? Our latest Tech Scaleup Spain 2024 report, analyzed by Alberto Onetti, dives into the real numbers behind #femaleentrepreneurship in #Spain—and while the picture is still far from balanced, there are signs of change. 👇🏻 Read the full post below and check out the report for key insights. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dJJVyy3z
Startup World, we have a problem. [post #1] For as long as anyone can remember, there has been a persistent lag in female entrepreneurship both in Europe and around the world. A gap that is even more pronounced in the tech and startup sectors. However, the latest research by Mind the Bridge on Spain ecosystem (Tech Scaleup Spain 2024, [download link https://lnkd.in/dJJVyy3z]) appears to signal a turning point in this trend. The Spanish landscape is no different from what we are unfortunately accustomed to: according to El Referente, only 17% of startup founders are women, while 83% are men. Mind the Bridge’s recent analysis unfortunately confirms this picture: ⛔ Only 15% of Spanish scaleups (154 out of 1134) have been co-founded by women. ⛔Among these, none has been started by an exclusively female team. The gap widens further at the leadership level: ⛔Only 10% have a woman among their C-level executives. ⛔Only 6% (57) are led by a woman as CEO. Thus, among the few scaleups that have had a woman among their founders, one third no longer have her in top positions, while only one third see her at the helm.
