Fybrel® is a highly fibrillated, high density polyethylene product which functions as a synthetic version of wood pulp in a variety of wet laid applications, including specialty papers, filtration media, and fully synthetic nonwovens. It is similar to refined cellulose in papermaking properties, but unlike traditional wood pulp, it does not absorb moisture or promote microbial growth. Compared to standard refined or post-fibrillated fibers, Fybrel® has a much more highly branched fibrillated structure, which results in a broad fiber diameter distribution and high surface area. Its resistance to acids and bases makes it functional across the range of pH. Fybrel® is used in specialty paper applications for thermal bonding and embossability, in battery separator papers due to its chemical resistance, and in fiber cement panels and molded fiber applications to enhance strength. In filtration applications, Fybrel® helps to control porosity and effectively trap solids. MiniFIBERS, Inc. is proud to have been the North American distributor of Fybrel® since 1976, and our territory has since expanded to include other regions. Our team is well versed and ready to answer any questions you may have about this unique and proven product!

Setting the Quality Standard for Fibers Worldwide
About us
MiniFIBERS, Inc. is the leading manufacturer and marketer of specialty fiber products to the specialty paper, filtration, textile, coatings, adhesives, sealants, composites and construction markets around the world. The company is family owned, and founded in 1967 based on proprietary technology designed to precision cut synthetic fibers, eliminating the defects which previous technologies typically produced. MiniFIBERS business today is based in four technologies. We remain the leading producer of precision cut synthetic fibers, producing and marketing a wide range of length based on many synthetic yarns. In addition, we are happy to custom cut fibers provided to us by our customers. Our second technology is based on our long relationship with Mitsui Chemicals, as their partner distributing the synthetic wood pulp product Fybrel. This high density polyethylene (HDPE) highly fibrillated fiber is used in many specialty paper, filtration, and fiber cement applications. MiniFIBERS takes Fybrel to produce our proprietary dry additive fiber called Short Stuff. Short Stuff is a very effective property modifier for coatings, adhesives, sealant and construction applications; improving crack resistance, ductility, strength, and dimensional stability. In addition, Short Stuff provides excellent rheological performance contributing outstanding sag resistance with optimum flow and leveling. Our last technology is the production of specialty, melt spun, partially oriented (POY) yarns. Products based on PPS, Kynar, Hytrel, Low Melt Polyethylene, LLDPE, and PBT are available.

When you need rheology but don’t want dust, Short Stuff® is a must! Short Stuff® provides rheology with less dusting than fumed silica. Only minimal PPE is required, there is reduced potential for cross-contamination, and the higher density of Short Stuff® results in lower shipping cost and less storage space needed. Even better, its predictable performance means less time spent on batch adjustments, and fewer failed batches. Get it right without a fight… for more information, visit www.minifibers.com.

Whether you are spraying wet or dry mix shotcrete, SHORT STUFF® fibrillated HDPE is on the job. SHORT STUFF® serves several different purposes in shotcrete. It helps to control cost by reducing rebound, in turn reducing waste and labor. It increases sag resistance, helping to maintain the integrity of the application until it has time to dry. And it improves the end product by reducing drying shrinkage and cracking, creating a more cohesive, durable surface. Contact us or one of our distribution partners to learn more. And don’t forget to ask about our sustainable natural fibers for use in fiber‐reinforced shotcrete!

MiniFIBERS is pleased to offer precision cut Lyocell and Viscose Rayon fibers, derived from sustainably grown wood pulp. They are not natural fibers, yet not synthetic – these fibers are formed by regenerating natural materials into a continuous filament form, which is then cut by MiniFIBERS to precise, consistent lengths as short as a half millimeter. These versatile products disperse easily in water and mix well with other natural and man-made fibers for use in a range of applications, most notably nonwovens applications requiring softness, absorbency, heat resistance, porosity, and superior sheet formation. Our Lyocell and Viscose Rayon fibers are available with the appropriate certifications to ensure sustainable forestry practices have been followed all along the supply chain, allowing you to use the product with full confidence in the responsible stewardship of our natural resources.
