Amber has been in her role with Missouri Department of Conservation for about 6 months now. Amber's favorite part about her job is the variety of experiences. Amber gets to experience hatchery operations all the way to fisheries management. Her daily tasks can vary widely, such as sampling fish on the river, banding wood ducks, chain sawing, and even delivering fish across the region. Welcome to Workforce Wednesday! Every Wednesday we will be highlighting a different career opportunity with MDC. This week we are highlighting a Recreational Use Specialist, Lafe! Lafe is currently our Recreational Use Specialist for the St. Louis Region. Lafe has been with MDC for 12 years now! Lafe's favorite part about working in his role is getting to work with great staff and partners on how to make our Conservation Areas more welcoming to everyone who wants to visit. Hunters, anglers, and horseback riders are just a few of the user groups he gets to work with. Lafe enjoys the variety our Conservation Areas provide each day with. You never know what kind of request you might get. Something you may not know about Lafe is that he has been a youth sports coach for 10+ years. He has had the honor to coach mostly Football and Basketball for a variety of age groups ranging from 1st graders to 8th graders. He really enjoys coaching the youth and seeing hard work build confidence and love for a sport or activity. Thomas is currently our Mid Rivers Scientist. His work focuses on understanding and managing large river systems, mid-size rivers, and managing paddlefish populations within the state. Thomas has been with MDC as a full time employee for 7 years! Thomas' favorite part about his job is getting people that are unfamiliar with big rivers, research, or conservation biology out in the field and helping them experience the work he gets to do firsthand, and then watching them develop an appreciation for the resources he gets to help manage. Something you may not know about Thomas is that his high school superlative was "Best Person to be Stranded on a Desert Island With." Ashley's favorite part about her job is leading the Community Conservation Team and seeing the partnerships and projects they have developed within their area.
