For the first time in 50 years, active payloads developed at MIT will land on the surface of the moon, as part of the IM-2 lunar mission. With a launch scheduled today, weather permitting, #IM2 will carry three payloads created by Media Lab researchers and collaborators, including researchers from MIT AeroAstro and MIT.nano—a 3D camera; a tiny AstroAnt rover developed in collaboration with Media Lab member company Castrol; and Humanity United with MIT Art and Nanotechnology in Space (HUMANS), a nano-etched disc encoded with the voices of people all around the world, sharing their thoughts on the meaning of space for themselves and humanity.
