Annual MIT Snow Sports Tour to Japan is now accepting reservations The third annual MIT Snow Sports Tour to Japan is now accepting reservations. We can accommodate 16 people. More information here: https://lnkd.in/erPiqdr9 The dates are February 21 to March 8 and includes skiing at Shiga Kogen and Happo One/Hakuba. Both resorts held Alpine ski events during the 1998 Winter Olympics. With a peak elevation of 2,307 meters, Shiga Kogen is Japan's highest-elevation resort. Because of the locations near the Sea of Japan, the ski resorts get huge amounts of snow. Hakuba/Happo One is reporting 4 feet of snow at the top lifts and a snow forecast of 70 inches in the next 10 days. The group will also stay in Takayama between the time at the resorts. In Takayama the narrow streets of its Sanmachi Suji historic district are lined with wooden merchants’ houses dating to the Edo Period, along with many small museums.

Club Clam Boil on November 7 a Huge Success! The MIT Club of Boston's Clam Boil on November 7th was a huge success. It was held in Back Bay at First Church in Boston. This was a DIY event in which volunteers did all of the procurement, preparation, cooking, and cleanup. This followed an earlier, similar event of a Louisiana Crawfish Boil back in April 2024. We're so excited for our upcoming talk on Wednesday, October 23, with Prof. Susan Solomon, National Medal of #Science #Laureate. She is internationally known for her work connecting #chlorofluorocarbon (#CFC) emissions to the #Antarctic #ozone #hole, one of the indisputable signs that human activities can seriously harm the #environment. She later co-led the team that developed the IPCC Group 1 (science) #climate report (2007), which shared the #Nobel Peace Prize with Al Gore that year. Prof. Solomon’s talk will focus on how #scientific findings were transformed into #policy and are now saving the ozone layer. She will describe how the work she has done at #MIT has led the effort to show that #humanity really did save the ozone layer, and what to expect in the #future. This Wednesday (Oct 23), there's an awesome opportunity to attend a talk (in-person or virtually) with Susan Solomon at MIT: https://lnkd.in/eKQWWy95 If you're not familiar with her name, you may at least be familiar with her work - she was instrumental in the #discovery of the role of #chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) in the destruction of the #ozone layer. You know, that big hole in the ozone layer over the Antarctic. Yeah, she figured that out. If you can't attend live, register and you'll receive a recording of the event. (I'll have to do that, since I'm running a pumpkin carving contest at the same time...) #research #MIT #climate #climateresearch #ozonelayer #ozonehole #atmosphere #chemistry #climatechange #atmosphericscience #science #womeninscience #women #scientist
