We are excited to celebrate the one-year anniversary of Mithra Club, York University’s first and only student organization dedicated to promoting skin health awareness. Over the past year, we have shared over 70 educational posts aimed at informing students about various skin conditions and the critical role our skin plays in overall health on instagram. Our skin is much more than a simple covering—it is the body’s first line of defense against a range of external threats. It acts as a protective barrier against harmful microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, and fungi, shielding us from potential infections. Additionally, skin helps to protect us from UV radiation through the production of melanin, which limits damage from the sun's harmful rays. Beyond its role in immune defence, our skin safeguards us from allergens and environmental toxins, preventing them from penetrating deeper into the body. It also helps regulate body temperature and prevents water loss, maintaining hydration and homeostasis. As a vital sensory organ, the skin allows us to detect pain, pressure, and temperature, acting as a warning system against potential physical harm. We’re proud to have shared this valuable information with the York community and look forward to continuing to raise awareness about the importance of skin health and how it reflects and protects our overall well-being. Thank you to our team for their continued hard work!

Appearance and Feel: The measles rash typically appears as small red spots, some of which are slightly raised. These spots may become confluent, meaning they join together as the rash spreads. The spots often have a blotchy look. Pattern and Location: The rash usually starts behind the ears and around the hairline before spreading over the face and down the body. It then extends to the arms, legs, and feet. The rash's progression across the body usually happens over a few days. Color and Texture: Initially, the rash is usually a reddish or brownish color. The spots might be slightly itchy and can be felt as small bumps on the skin.

As we conclude another academic semester, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all Executive members, including our co-founders Tina Barhagh and Parmis Falahat for their hard work and dedication. In our inaugural year, we had the honour of engaging with hundreds of members from the York University fostering enduring relationships that enhance our collective support for the student body. We are immensely grateful to Dr. Jade Olayinka for showing us a glimpse into the field of Dermatology! Special thanks to Ailiya Rizwan and Nourallah Salem for their support during our first event, 'beyond the surface', featuring Dr. Maryam Bagherzadeh as our esteemed speaker. Finally, thank you to Bethune College Peer Leaders, Bethune College Council and Claire Del Zotto for their continuous support! Our goal has been to shed light on conditions that manifest on our skin but stem from deeper issues, and to highlight the potential impacts of medications for skin conditions on overall health and wellbeing. Remember to wear your sunscreen! 🌞 We eagerly anticipate your participation in our future events and continue our journey in raising awareness and promoting health education within our vibrant community.
