This week marked the end of our inspiring collaboration with the NSF Regional Innovation Engines (RIE) Program. Over the past 15 months, we have worked with 44 NSF Development Awards, or Type-1 Engine awardees, from across the US as part of an innovative ecosystem training program delivered by MIT REAP - Regional Entrepreneurship Acceleration Program. The NSF Engines Program was launched to drive transformative regional innovation by building partnerships among academia, industry, government, and local communities. MIT REAP delivered its frameworks in accelerating regional entrepreneurial ecosystems, to support Type-1 Engine awardees in building sustainable, impact-driven innovation ecosystems. Thank you to the National Science Foundation (NSF) for its commitment to advancing regional innovation and to our partners and participants for making this journey impactful. About us
MIT REAP is a dynamic global initiative with two programs – Global and Focus – that engages with communities around the world to strengthen innovation-driven entrepreneurial (IDE) ecosystems and transform economies. We achieve our mission by translating research insights into practical frameworks, convening stakeholders focused on IDE, and educating regional leaders through team-based interaction to achieve economic and social progress. - Translate research and expertise into practical frameworks, approaches and actions with widespread global application. - Convene stakeholders (corporate, risk capital, entrepreneur, university and government) from ecosystems around the world to build a community for collaboration and learning. - Educate regional innovation ecosystem leaders through team-based learning to facilitate meaningful economic and social outcomes. - Impact regions through the development of new programmatic and policy interventions that build on strengths and support weaknesses to support IDEs.

📢 I'm thrilled to announce that Michigan has been selected for the prestigious MIT REAP - Regional Entrepreneurship Acceleration Program global cohort! 🎉 👀 The full scoop: https://lnkd.in/dbhBiY2g During my first six months as Michigan's Chief Innovation Ecosystem Officer, I spent a lot of time listening and observing. Now, we're taking the next big step in that journey: orienting towards a "Go-To-Market" strategy. As part of MIT REAP's latest cohort, over the next two years, Team Michigan will dive into a rigorous exchange of global best practices, leveraging frameworks developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to spur collaborative conversation and action that accelerates innovation-driven entrepreneurship in the State of Michigan. Our "Team Michigan" cohort represents a broad and dynamic group of innovation ecosystem leaders from every corner of the state. We recently returned from our first multi-day on-campus workshop at MIT, and the collaborative energy was absolutely electrifying. A tremendous thank you to trailblazers Jim Baker, Nia Batts, Christina Drake, Peter Hill, Camille Hoisington, Rishi Moudgil, Luke Polcyn, Eileen Sellaro, Kelly Sexton, Jeffrey Jothum Smith, and Jonathan Smith for enthusiastically embarking on this project with us! This is an "all hands on deck" approach. Stakeholders of all sorts are needed to tackle this big challenge and drive us forward into the future. No one is outright in charge of entrepreneurship. In the coming months, we'll be convening conversations across Michigan to share best practices, exchange data, and gather insights. The goal is to ignite a movement with a shared vision and practical implementation strategy that propels Michigan into a new era of economic prosperity for all. To me, personally, that means putting Michigan on the global map as a hub for turning groundbreaking ideas into reality: 💡-->🚀 I invite you to enter the arena with us! Maybe you're a seasoned founder who left the state long ago but feel the tug to come home and build something new. Or perhaps you're a sophisticated investor at a sovereign wealth fund abroad, looking for better bang on the investment buck. Maybe you're a university student or faculty innovator with an idea that could change the world. Or a longtime Michigander passionate about empowering our top young minds to know they can have it all right here. Regardless of who you are, where you call home, or even if you have a tie to Michigan, we need YOUR help to make this happen! 🙌 Team Michigan stands ready to build the future by working together. Let's go.

Had an incredible and insightful week at MIT REAP - Regional Entrepreneurship Acceleration Program, as part of #TeamBotswana. This couldn’t be coming at a better time for Botswana, as she finds herself at a crossroads filled with opportunity and risk. We need to collectively leverage the momentum from the recent historic elections to grow our entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem and elevate the standard of living of our people. Botswana can easily become a hub for African entrepreneurs being the most stable, longest running continuous democracy in Africa, having no limitations on foreign currency as well as a relatively stable Pula. The greater partnership between Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Botswana will undoubtedly help unlock a lot of barriers to innovation in our economy.

The MIT REAP - Regional Entrepreneurship Acceleration Program program at Massachusetts Institute of Technology is a dynamic global initiative that engages with communities around the world to strengthen innovation-driven entrepreneurial (IDE) ecosystems. It was a pleasure to host representatives from MIT REAP at CIC (Cambridge Innovation Center) and Venture Café Cambridge. The representatives were from different stakeholders groups that are key to building innovation ecosystems - entrepreneurs, academic research institutions, investors, governments, large corporations - and were from cities of Botswana, Edmonton, Michigan, Heilbronn-Franken region, Hualien, Miami, and Valparaiso. We discussed CIC's role in managing and operating innovation infrastructure (co-working spaces, office spaces, public spaces, event spaces, lab facilities) in cities across US, Europe and Asia, and how we conduct year round, high impact programming to activate the ecosystems in which we operate. Starting in 1999, and having developed as the world's largest connected innovation campus, CIC now works with local partners and spearhead efforts to build and support the development of industry specific clusters in the areas of life sciences, robotics, energy transition, and many others. Thank you Sinan AbuShanab and colleagues for organizing - we look forward to staying engaged with you and all the REAP participants! Photo by: Bryce Vickmark

Also, a big thank you goes to The Engine Accelerator for being our host for the week! #MITREAP #GlobalAccelerator #MITSloan
