The Minnesota Cancer Clinical Trials Network

With a new year and new faces, we want to introduce ourselves! The Minnesota Cancer Clinical Trials Network (MNCCTN) is a network of 22 sites that increases access to clinical trials close to home. Led by the Masonic Cancer Center, University of Minnesota and funded by the state legislature through the MnDRIVE program, MNCCTN is a partnership of 5 health care organizations. These include Essentia Health, Fairview Health Services, Mayo Clinic Health System, Metro-Minnesota Community Oncology Research Consortium (MMCORC), and Sanford Health. MNCCTN works by bringing clinical trials from research partners directly to Greater Minnesota clinics throughout the state. Interested in learning more and finding your closest MNCCTN site? Workforce Wednesday: Join the Multi-Regional Clinical Trials Center of Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard (MRCT Center) and Convergence Project on Feb 25 for a virtual event focused on workforce development strategies to support a more dynamic and competitive clinical research workforce. In Spring 2024, #MNCCTN and Masonic Cancer Center, University of Minnesota launched the Community Advocates Program, a program to bring community voices and perspectives into #CancerResearch. 10 Advocates are participating in this cohort, and they've been hard at work training, connecting, providing program feedback, and participating in engagement opportunities of their choice. This year's projects have included: -Clinical trial education projects with 2 community partner organizations serving American Indian and Latinx populations -Reviewing and providing feedback on 8 clinical trial education materials, and developing best practice recommendations -Reviewing and revising 2 different MNCCTN grant RFAs -Reviewing and providing feedback on 2 clinical trial protocols proposed to open through MNCCTN -Participating in outreach events that engaged 125 community members Join #MNCCTN and #UMNCancer in celebrating our wonderful Community Advocates! #community #communitybuilding #communityoutreach #outreach #oncology #research #cancerresearch #clinicaltrials #health #wellness #clinicalresearch #research

Occupation categories and codes are important to increase understanding and perhaps growth of the clinical research field through increased visiblity and data collection. ACRP - Association of Clinical Research Professionals is advocating for the addition of clinical research as its own occupation code for the following reasons: 1. Clinical research brings us new medicines and medical devices 2. Clinical researchers are distinct from other healthcare workers 3. The clinical research occupation has changed significantly—and continues to transform 4. Clinical research is an essential occupation that is currently in crisis 5.
