The event gathered together port and airport professionals from all over Europe, many of whom are involved in #EU-funded projects tackling the #decarbonisation of these two sectors. This was one of the first times, if not the first, that ports and airports got together to tackle common challenges related to #sustainability and #digitalisation. Anna skillfully moderated the two days of the conference. She brought in her deep expertise in #energy and sustainability, as well as warm and positive energy, and her ability to make events #dynamic and #interactive. She took the lead in facilitating the expert roundtables, making them equally engaging and insightful. The organisers highlighted her timekeeping ability, in a very tight agenda! We thank the Port of Antwerp-Bruges, Brussels Airport and CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency for trusting us in making the first Seas 2 Skies Conference a real success! #ModeratingEU #Moderation #InteractiveEvents #SeaToSky

    • A blond woman with long hair, to the sides of her face. She wears glasses and has a microphone from her ear to her mouth. She wears a black and cream color jacket with a red blouse underneath. She has her hands together on her lap.
Young woman from the side. Black curly hair, at the lenght on her neck. She wears a blue suit. She has a phone on her hand and she is using the other one to slide some content while looking to the blond woman.
    • Young white woman with curly medium length black hair. She wears a blue suit and has a tablet on her hands. She holds it with both hands. She is speaking. Behind her we see the image of a plane passing on top of a bridge where cars are passing through and the sea. We can read "conference 2024". Below, we see a white stripe with different logos. From the left, green circle with some green and blue lines, to its right says "LGA". On the right, we see a green plane, a semicircle and three yellow stars around the semicircle. On the right of the logo we read Stargate.
    • Big room with lights that look pink and red. There is a big dinosaur hanging from the ceiling. We see an audience with people on blue, grey and green.
At the end of the room we see a screen where we identify a plane and some text next to it - not readable. Below the screen we identify three white persons.
    • Young white woman with curly medium length black hair. She wears a blue and green flowers long dress, and black boots with heels. She holds a tablet on her left hand and points with the second finger of her right hand to someone in the audience.
Behind her there is a lectern, brown and the top is metal grey. In front of her there is a rectangular black speaker.
  • Our team member Merle Becker, had the privilege to moderate the panel discussion, “Shaping the Future of Affordable and Sustainable Housing in Europe,” held at the Representation of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia in Brussels. The event, organised by the European Association of Public Banks (EAPB), brought together key voices from public banks, housing associations, and European policymakers to explore solutions to Europe’s housing crisis. 🏠 As moderator, her primary responsibility was to create an engaging and balanced space for dialogue. This meant not only ensuring every panelist had the opportunity to share their expertise but also connecting their perspectives in a way that resonated with the diverse audience. The topics were complex—ranging from financial instruments to EU housing policies—but her aim was to make them accessible without losing depth.  🧏 Moderating is more than asking questions; it’s about listening actively, adapting on the fly, and guiding the conversation so that it stays focused yet dynamic. For instance, when discussions on financing tools became technical, she steered the conversation towards real-world applications and impacts. Similarly, when panelists touched on overlapping themes, she sought to highlight synergies rather than redundancy.  💡 In an event like this, the moderator plays a pivotal role in bridging the gap between expert discourse and audience engagement. Her approach was to foster an atmosphere of curiosity and collaboration, encouraging the panelists to challenge ideas, share innovative solutions, and build on one another’s insights. By weaving in the audience’s perspectives, she aimed to ensure that the conversation extended beyond the panel and reflected the broader concerns of all stakeholders present.  🔆 This event highlighted the importance of having a skilled moderator to ensure that critical issues like housing affordability and sustainability are discussed in a way that sparks action. Being able to guide such an important conversation—bringing together thought leaders, decision-makers, and innovators—was an opportunity I greatly valued. 👏 Events like this remind us that meaningful dialogue, when facilitated effectively, can drive collaboration and inspire real change. As Europe faces growing housing challenges, the discussions we shape today will help lay the foundation for tomorrow’s solutions. 🙌 #moderating #affordablehousing #moderatingeu #moderator #facilitation #paneldiscussion

  • Rogier Elshout makes in his post below a great reflection about the future of AI and how much importance we should give it or not. He brings important questions to the table, to not get fooled by it, and how the future can look like. As a group of moderators that try to bring creativity, interaction and something new into the event scene, it looks a bit scary how there is a threat of AI to take over our jobs. What are your thoughts about it? Do you think that could happen? Moderating.eu believes in the power of human interactions and the importance of the human touch in moderation and facilitation 💯

Professional moderator/presenter/host. I design interactive, effective and accessible programs focused on results.

🤖When will the moderator be replaced by AI? I’ve hosted now several events on how generative AI will reshape the future of work. Last month alone twice: for lawyers and legal experts (Sdu) and financials (Dynatos). The same questions keep coming up: 1️⃣ Is GEN-AI just a hype? – Are we now laughing at its mistakes, but not realising it is a toddler today but matures super fast? 2️⃣ Will it help us or replace us? 3️⃣ Is it the answer to labor shortages, or will it make us obsolete? – Does it allow us to do more important, relevant and fun things or not? 4️⃣ Is it a wolf in sheep’s clothing? – Right now, it’s assisting experts, but soon, will people just cut them out and go straight to AI? 5️⃣ Does AI help us navigate a world that becomes ever more complex, or is it adding to the chaos? 6️⃣ Is it a saviour or a destroyer? – Will it help humanity or end up controlling and destroying us? 🤔 One question I keep asking myself: When will the moderator be replaced by AI? Of course, I like to think my creativity, spontaneity, and personality can’t be replaced. And I’m not really worried that tomorrow a robot will do my job better than me. What does concern me is that the world might change so much that maybe moderators—or even events as we know them—won’t exist in their current form. We’re not just talking about automating tasks; we’re talking about rethinking entire systems, industries, and human interaction itself. After years of listening to various experts—from the philosophical to the practical—the majority (such as Job van den Berg & Christian Kromme) seem optimistic. They say AI is going to be huge, but it’ll help us. It won’t destroy us, and it won’t concentrate power in the hands of a few corporations or governments. But I’m not so sure. In fact, I think we’re being naïve. AI isn’t just some tool that’ll make our jobs easier. We’re facing something far bigger, something that could fundamentally reshape—or even dismantle—entire industries, societies, and lives. The truth is, we might already be past the point of no return. The consequences of this technology could be far more destructive than anyone wants to admit. And I don’t have the faith we have a policy making mechanism – let alone corporate decency – to curb the risks. Thanks to Leonoor de Kruif, Esther van Doesburg, Gert Jan de Vries, Gert-Jan Puper and others to for the great events (and the photos)
