On a Mission to Inspire America
About us
The museum will offer an experience that draws personal and emotional connections to Medal of Honor recipients and their stories, while shedding light on the wars in which they fought and the ideals that the Medal of Honor represents. Visitors will come to understand the meaning and price of freedom—and appreciate the virtue of putting service above self. The National Medal of Honor Museum will also include an education center aimed at character development in our nation’s youth. A critical part of our mission will be to use the stories of our Medal of Honor recipients to inspire young people, and motivate them to be their best selves. In concert with the Medal of Honor Society, the National Medal of Honor Museum—at the museum itself and virtually—will include a robust educational component aimed at youth character development. Designed by teachers, the Character Development Program will provide students with opportunities to explore the concepts of courage, patriotism, sacrifice, integrity and humility, and how these values can be exemplified in daily life.

As Character Week continues in Texas, we are highlighting another program under our Griffin Institute Center for Character Excellence. The Living Honorably program is a dynamic, in- person character development experience designed specifically for students in grades 8-11. Over three immersive sessions students engage in a unique blend of historical learning, personal reflection, and civic engagement, all centered around the values embodied by Medal of Honor Recipients. This program not only aims to foster character and leadership qualities but also aligns with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills Social Studies requirements, ensuring educational relevance and rigor.

November 11-15 is Character Education Week in Texas as schools and parents across the state come together to highlight the values and characteristics for the next generation of Texas leaders. The National Medal of Honor Museum Griffin Institute, Everfi and the NFL Character Playbook have worked together to develop curriculum which offers true to life scenarios, knowledge checks, and offline resources, all free for all teachers to insert into their lessons. The classroom extension activities include inspiration stories with worksheets about Medal of Honor Recipients and is free to use. During the 2023-2024 school year, over 332,425 students at 4,000 schools across the nation have completed this lesson plan and applied the values of courage, commitment, and integrity to their decision-making and choices.

This Veterans Day, we celebrate the millions of individuals who are serving or have served in the United States Armed Forces. Their courage, selflessness, and sacrifice allow us to enjoy our freedoms today and every day. Of the 40 million men and women who have bravely served in uniform, only 3,519 of them have received the Medal of Honor, our nation’s highest award for valor in combat. These heroes model what it means to serve. The National Medal of Honor Museum’s mission is to preserve and share their stories and values, showing us the path towards a brighter future. We look forward to honoring America’s Medal of Honor recipients and all the veterans they served alongside when we open our doors in just a few months. 🇺🇸
