In my community work, speaking to people about their financial worries, I felt I was missing a little something. Due to my background, I can talk all day long about the technical and practical stuff, but I generally find that people need a more empathetic response, or someone to talk to in a safe place. 🫱🏼🫲🏼 Much of what I do is often just being there for people, listening to them and simply encouraging them to take the first step in the right direction. I have realised now, how important this aspect is when it comes to helping people, so I took it upon myself to find a way to learn more and to formalise the process. That’s why, I am very pleased to say that I am now officially a Certified Money First Aider! I took the MONEY FIRST AID online training course and then sat the exam and passed! 🎉 I highly recommend this course for all HR/Wellbeing professionals plus any financial services professionals who would like to offer their expertise pro-bono in their local community. Thank you Rachel Harte and Stacey Lowman for conjuring up such a important and meaningful proposition. 🙏🏼

#BrewMonday is a day when Samaritans remind us that there is always time for a cuppa and a chat. We're sharing a chat we had with the wonderful Matthew Holman from Simpila Wellbeing. He asked MONEY FIRST AID Co-Founders, Rachel Harte and Stacey Lowman, about their story to starting the company and their personal motivations for training people to support others through financial difficulties. The Government debated the Renter's Rights Bill yesterday. Read the key takeaways from Shelter below. Thank you to Shelter and everyone who has campaigned to this point. On to the House of Lords!
What happened at yesterday’s Renter’s’ Rights Bill debate? What you need to know 👇🏾 > The rent in advance amendment – limiting rent -in -advance requests to one month – was voted through. This is a big win for renters and a reflection of the dedication of our campaigners 🎊 > Many MPs spoke out about the need to stabilise rents, including Alex Sobel, Paula Barker and Bell Ribeiro-Addy. While, disappointingly, the government has not committed to the amendment, support across the board is a huge boost for the campaign 💪🏾 > Two amendments, one on creating a strong – and detailed – landlord register, and one on restricting unreasonable guarantor requests were also discussed at length, with MP’s sharing evidence from their constituents. The government committed to look at these areas further – an important step forward. Ending section 21 no-fault evictions continues to be a key part of the bill. In short, we’ve got some amazing wins under our belt. And we’ve made some great ground on guarantors, limiting rent increases and a strengthened landlord register. This couldn’t have happened without you. Now to keep up the pressure as the bill goes to the House of Lords – our next big chance to win these changes for renters. https://lnkd.in/e6n5Mwka

3 key changes to the Mental Health Bill that Money and Mental Health are calling for... Please follow them for updates as the Bill reaches the House of Lords.
Today the Mental Health Bill reaches the committee stage in the House of Lords. The Act as it stands is outdated, unfit for purpose and fails to systematically address the significant financial needs of those who are acutely unwell with their mental health. The Mental Health Bill is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to legislate that people’s holistic needs, including their finances, are considered as a key part of supporting recovery from a mental health crisis. We’ve been working with Lord Davies of Brixton and other peers to make changes to the Bill to better support people in mental health crises with their finances. See below the changes that we’re calling for. Make sure you follow us to stay updated with the progress of our amendments to the Bill.
