Wow wow wow! I'm always really inspired by Science's technologies. I'm 𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 excited about the 𝐛𝐢𝐨𝐡𝐲𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐝 𝐧𝐞𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐬 they're reporting on in this video. I still got to hands-on bring up their first 𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥-𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐧𝐞𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐬 together with Mark Zhang and Carter Allen in the early days of Monomer Bio. After seeing Alan Mardinly's initial operations get up and running, it's very gratifying to see where they have taken it and what they've accomplished now!

Today we are unveiling our latest technology: "At Science, we’re developing a biohybrid probe technology using highly engineered, stem cell-derived neurons embedded in vitro in electronics and engrafted into the brain, forming new biological connections. The basic idea is pretty simple: since the brain is already largely composed of neurons, what happens if we add more neurons? The answer is they grow in and wire up extensively. Importantly, we solve the central problem (the destruction of neurons by traditional wire like probes) by keeping the cell bodies with us, which is possible because we started with them. Only their axons and dendrites grow out into the brain, joining the representations they encounter." https://lnkd.in/gYgJzkdB You can take a behind the scenes look into our work thanks to the incredible work of Jason Carman and S3: https://lnkd.in/gA6M_bXZ

🚨 Pharma R&D costs are climbing while returns shrink, threatening the sustainability of drug discovery. According to Deloitte, average R&D costs per asset have jumped by 76% over the past decade, while forecasted peak sales per asset dropped by 30% between 2013 and 2023. This trajectory is unsustainable. 💡 𝘛𝘦𝘤𝘩𝘉𝘪𝘰 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘣𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘸𝘦𝘳. TechBio can scale up experiments and eliminate candidates early, by leveraging: 1. 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐛𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 – Moving from small molecules to biologics and cell therapies is transforming therapeutic possibilities. Increasingly complex disease models generate more accurate results. 2. 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐥𝐚𝐛 𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 – Enables high throughput to explore broader solution spaces. 3. 𝐄𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 – With some models now surpassing human performance, ML is guiding smarter, faster decisions. The industry talks a lot about AI in labs. In this recent talk, I introduced a framework for talking about the different levels of lab intelligence: - 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝟱: Artificial General Intelligence - 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝟰: Autonomous - 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝟯: ML-Guided - 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝟮: Data-Centric - 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝟭: Automated - 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝟬: Manual 📽️ Interested in learning more? I had the pleasure of sitting down with Emma Chen at Columbia University student-run 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐝𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐭 to discuss Monomer Bio's work in 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐢𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐬 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐥 𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐚. 🧫🔬📊 I always enjoy hearing from undergraduates about their study choices and am impressed by Emma's passion for sharing knowledge through initiatives like her podcast. They are the future, and it's clear that the future is bright. 🌠 Check out our conversation here: https://hubs.ly/Q02W9W980 🎙️🎧

At Monomer, we strive to equip stem cell biologists with tools that allow them to run more experiments and generate better data with less manual effort. We recently released Culture Monitor - a cloud-based solution for monitoring automated stem cell culture and engineering workflows. This solution seamlessly integrates with our Automation Platform and lets researchers make decisions based on the health, morphology, and growth rate of their cultures in near real-time. The Culture Monitor augments automated cell culture systems by providing scientists with: Near Real-time Monitoring — Gain continuous insights into your stem cell cultures. Monitor critical parameters like cell morphology, % confluence, and growth rate in near real-time. Data Analytics and Visualization — Make informed decisions about your cultures with robust analytics. Easily browse images, identify anomalies, and view trends. Remote Access and Control — Stay connected to your experiments from anywhere with our secure cloud-based platform. Access real-time data, receive alerts, and adjust culture conditions remotely. Cloud-Based Data Management — Securely store, view, and share microscopy images from anywhere. Enhanced Quality Control — Ensure consistent and reproducible results with standardized protocols.
