MOOI SOLIDARITY project

Research Services

SOLIDARITY is supported by the Dutch Multi-year Mission-driven Innovation Program 7: A CO2-free industrial heat system.

About us

To help the Dutch ndustry meet the climate goals the MOOI project SOLIDARITY will decrease the use of fossil based heat, increase the use of (clean) electricity and improve process efficiency. Within SOLIDARITY, partners in the paper industry, oil & gas and pharma collaborate to demonstrate cost-effective drying & dewatering in the process industry by combining technology and innovations in liquid-solid and liquid-liquid separations. SOLIDARITY is a cooperation between industrial partners Carbogen AmCIS, ESKA, Huhtamaki, VNP and TechnipFMC, SMEs Pervatech and Waterfuture, research institutes WFBR and TNO and the RUG, and is coordinated by TNO. Several technologies for efficient drying an dewatering have been developed on lab and bench scale. The technologies, which will be further developed in SOLIDARITY, focus on avoiding evaporation as much as possible (electrodialysis, displacement pressing, impulse drying) and recovery and re-use of latent heat (pervaporation and airless drying). The main developments targeted in SOLIDARITY are: 1. Cost reduction through optimization of three key technologies; 2. Creating a track record for innovative drying and dewatering systems in current, relevant industrial conditions; 3. Further develop value chains that will implement energy-efficient drying and dewatering technologies in the paper industry, oil&gas and pharma; 4. Address non-technological barriers, decision and investment processes The ultimate goal of the development, in which SOLIDARITY must make an important step, is aimed at reducing the heat demand in industrial processes by 30-40% in the long term and to use more sustainable electricity.
