We are proud to share our recent work on North Medford High School's seismic upgrade, part of the State of Oregon's visionary Seismic Rehabilitation Grant Program (SRGP). This program, providing up to $2.5M per project with $55M available for schools, is transforming our educational infrastructure. Why does this matter? Our children spend over 1,000 hours each year in school buildings. Making these spaces earthquake-resilient isn't just about infrastructure – it's about protecting our most precious resource: our children's future. Recently attended a captivating panel at the WTS Los Angeles luncheon, where leaders from the region's airports shared transformative ideas for the future of airports. Discussions focused on innovations like autonomous vehicle tunnels and hydrogen fuel for Jet0 emissions, alongside strategies to enhance capacity and traffic flow. As LA gears up for global events like the Olympics and FIFA World Cup, it was exciting to hear about the strategic enhancements each airport is focusing on. A big thank you to the WTS-LA Program Committee for organizing such an informative event, to the speakers—Ron Reeves (Long Beach Airport), David Reich (Los Angeles World Airports), and Keith Owens (Ontario International Airport)—for sharing their insights and to Patti Harburg-Petrich, S.E.for moderating. It was wonderful to learn about what's next in LA Metro area aviation, connect with new colleagues, and catch up with old friends. Had a fantastic time at the ASCE Seattle Section Geotechnical Group & Geo-Institute-Seattle Chapter Fall Seminar on Innovation in Geosynthetics! Roger Millar, Washington State Department of Transportation Secretary, kick-started the day with an engaging talk on innovation in transportation infrastructure, emphasizing the critical infrastructure improvements needed in the region. The day was filled with great discussions. I also had the opportunity to present on a topic we explored for one of our projects at MPERA—use of geogrid-stabilized gravel rafts on a potentially liquefiable sites— a potential cost-effective alternative ground improvement method for lightweight structures on liquefiable sites depending on performance needs. Feeling so bummed and experiencing major FOMO for missing out on the World Conference on Earthquake Engineering in Milan. Unfortunately, Visa issues have kept me from being there in person.
