MealsOnWheels Greenville County celebrated some exciting news last Tuesday: the official groundbreaking for their new facility! Located on Augusta Road, the 24,000-square-foot campus will enable this nonprofit to prepare and deliver up to 6,000 meals daily (three times their current capacity). “We will see the need for our services continue to grow in Greenville and in order to expand our programs and meet the need we knew we needed a larger, more efficient facility,” Catriona Carlisle, Meals on Wheels executive director said. The new design features a 15,000-square-foot kitchen with 5,000 square feet of dedicated food storage. The building will also contain corporate offices, open office workstations, board room and a wellness room. The site is designed with a circular drive for volunteer meal pickups, an amphitheater for community events and space for future growth. Investing in cutting-edge training is essential to ensure our first responders are prepared to serve and protect. The City of Greer, South Carolina has officially broken ground on a new $17 million Public Safety Training Facility, a state-of-the-art development that will elevate training for law enforcement and fire personnel. Highlights of this facility include: + 50-yard indoor firing range for advanced law enforcement training  + New fire training tower to simulate real-world emergency scenarios  + Seminar classroom space to enhance professional development With the Greer Police Department training over 9,700 hours a year and the fire department exceeding 40,000 hours annually, this facility will serve as a premier hub for safety training, fostering partnerships across the region, including the South Carolina police academy. When Auburn University engaged MPS to design a 6,000 sq. ft. renovation in the basement of an existing recreation and wellness center, our key considerations were to create an inviting, airy, and welcoming place that makes students feel safe in an environment that addresses both mental and physical well-being. With only one window for 9 offices and two meeting rooms, maximizing daylighting effects was challenging, but ultimately accomplished through extra wide hallways and diffused lighting fixtures that mimic skylights. The incorporation of bright, natural materials and biophilic elements further supports wellness, while attention to acoustics ensures the space remains calm and serene. This is an active space, so a phased renovation plan was used to keep programs operational throughout construction. Completed in Fall 2024, the station provides firefighters with the space and resources they need to better serve the city’s growing population.
