The Rotary Clubs of Southeastern Wisconsin recently honored three exceptional individuals as the recipients of its second annual Agent of Peace Award during a ceremony on November 7th, 2024. This award reflects Rotary’s commitment to fostering peace, understanding, and collaboration within communities, resonating with Rotary International’s vision to “see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change — across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.” One of this year’s award recipients was Joan Robertson of Milwaukee who received the Decades of Peace Advocacy and Education award. At 108 years old, Joan Robertson has spent her life building a culture of peace. For over 80 years, she has been an active member of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, and she served as president of Milwaukee’s chapter of the United World Federalists, now Citizens for Global Solutions. Her impact on peace education includes establishing the A.D. Robertson Fund for the United Nations with the Rotary Club of Milwaukee, which educates the community and celebrates United Nations Day. Joan also launched the United Nations School of International Learning curriculum, now part of Milwaukee Public Schools, educating thousands of students on global peace efforts. Congratulations to Joan, for this incredible achievement!

Congrats to everyone’s favorite arts school MHSA! We can’t wait to check out the new digs. The new facilities include a dance studio, a STEM lab with space for their Project Lead the Way program, a renovated gymnasium that allows the school to host home basketball games, and an outdoor courtyard for students.

Check out our Executive Director, Willie Jude II, M.Ed., testing out the new tennis courts at Ronald Reagan High School last Friday at their ribbon cutting! The MPS Foundation was a proud partner and champion of this initiative to secure funds to support this critical project. Thanks to all of you, the multimillion-dollar project to add science labs and upgrade the athletic complex is now complete.

The MPS Foundation experienced a significant loss earlier this month with the passing of our beloved team member and friend, Vanessa Claypool. Vanessa was known for her integrity, professionalism, humor, empathy, love, and generosity. We continue to send our thoughts, love and prayers. We do not have enough words to express our condolences to the family, but we will display our gratitude for Vanessa through our actions. As someone stated at Vanessa's Celebration of Life ceremony, we can remember Vanessa by loving more, showing more grace, and giving more.   Today is Vanessa's birthday. In honor of our colleague and friend, the MPS Foundation will establish the Vanessa Claypool Memorial Scholarship, which will be presented at the Celebration of Scholars ceremony in May 2025.
