A call to support survivors of sexual violence and gender-based violence in Haiti's capital, Port-au-Prince: they urgently need vital services such as safe shelters, mental health support, and medical care, as rape and other forms of assault have become widespread amid the violence and insecurity the city has faced in recent years. https://lnkd.in/ezBaTSpH We partnered with award-winning Haitian visual artist in the US, Lyne Lucien to create an animation that honors the strength of Haitian people on the path to healing, and share one survivor's difficult journey of recovery. “As someone who grew up in Haiti, I’ve witnessed both the challenges women face and their incredible strength. This work is deeply personal to me because I want my community to heal."

Strides in HIV care in northeastern Mozambique: Health care workers Dr. Filomena Januário and Cristina Virgílio are breaking down stigmas and creating a safe environment for people affected by HIV. As an HIV specialist, Dr. Januário emphasizes two major challenges in providing HIV care in Cabo Delgado: ensuring consistent follow-up care for patients displaced from their homes by violence and addressing stigma within the community. Cristina Virgílio, a mãe mentora (Portuguese for ‘mothers’ mentor’), leads awareness sessions for HIV-positive pregnant women and new mothers aimed at preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV. Living with HIV herself, Cristina shares her experience with other women and shows them that it’s possible to raise a family and live a healthy and happy life with the virus. Together, their work highlights the importance of community-driven solutions in addressing both the medical and social challenges of HIV care in conflict settings. ❤️

This situation is threatening the lives of hundreds of patients, including newborns, who depend on electricity to stay alive. Doctors Without Borders teams are transferring fuel to Nasser and Al-Aqsa Hospitals as a temporary solution, but this will only allow the hospitals to run for the next 36 to 48 hours. https://lnkd.in/eesXaSjD

Do you know how HIV is treated? Or transmitted? Our team in Uzbekistan is here to clear up some misconceptions. 💡 We’re working with the Republican AIDS Centre to support a mobile lab that provides free rapid testing and health information in and around the country’s capital, Tashkent. Our goal is to educate people diagnosed with HIV as well as the community so that they’re informed of their options.

13-year-old Rahaf is a survivor of an Israeli airstrike on October 13, 2024, that targeted an area housing displaced people inside the Al-Aqsa Hospital compound in Deir Al Balah, Gaza. She suffered severe burns and shrapnel in her abdomen. She and her father are now among the more than 14,000 patients awaiting Israeli approval for urgently needed treatment abroad. The airstrike killed Rahaf’s mother, sister and two of her brothers, among others. From Rahaf’s family, only she, her father, and one brother survived. “I woke up from the intense heat...I found myself lying down. My father was unconscious beside me, and my little brother was next to me. I couldn’t handle the sight; it was too hard to bear,” she recounts. All Rahaf wants is this: “I wish for the war to stop, for us to return to our homes, heal from our injuries, and go back to school to our normal lives, and to our families.” #CeasefireNow

Over the past year, we’ve been rehabilitating water hand pumps and distributing water filters to families from villages surrounding Adré transit camps in eastern Chad. More than 200,000 people are currently living in makeshift shelters in the camps. With so many people, resources are limited and there’s a need to increase the quantity of safe water for drinking, cooking, and sanitation. By reinstating water hand pumps, we’ve successfully provided safe water to hundreds of thousands of refugees in the camps.

As temperatures drop in Gaza, children are especially vulnerable to health risks. Israel’s ongoing war has left countless families without proper access to essential items such as clean water, food, and warm shelter. Our teams supporting pediatric and neonatal care at Nasser Hospital have been operating above capacity since July, with 25 beds occupied. Read how we’re responding to the various health needs. https://lnkd.in/ebCjZMWC
