📣Strengthening #MarineProtection: A Win for the #BalticSea’s #Natura2000 Sites💫 🌊 The #BalticSea just took a significant step toward a healthier future! On 28 November 2024, the European Union adopted new conservation measures to enhance the protection of #five #Natura2000 sites within the #German #ExclusiveEconomicZone (#EEZ) of the #BalticSea. 👉🏻These measures, introduced by Germany and supported by all #Baltic #EUcountries, will: ✅ #Prohibit #fishing with #mobile #bottomContacting #gears in critical areas, including parts of the #Fehmarnbelt, #Kadetrinne, #Pommersche #Bucht mit #Oderbank, and the entire sites of #WestlicheRönnebank and #Adlergrund. ✅ #Safeguardsensitive #seabed #habitats like #sandbanks and #reefs. ✅ Contribute to #reversing the #unfavorable #environmental status of species and biotopes in these areas. 👉🏻This milestone demonstrates the success of the #regionalisationProcess under the #CommonFisheriesPolicy (CFP).
