MTN Fintech CEO Mr. Francis Matseketsa met with the Hon. Minister of Finance, Dr Marial Dongrin Ater at his office today. The discussion focused on how MTN Fintech can support the government's efforts to enhance financial inclusion and digitize payments, such as civil servants' salaries and the collection of revenues like taxes, using the MoMo platform. In collaboration with the government of South Sudan, MoMo aims to assist in digitizing the country's economy. MTN Fintech will work towards promoting financial inclusion, reaching unbanked populations, raising awareness, and developing infrastructure for merchants and agents. Samsung Electronics East Africa Managing Director, Richard Lee, and his team recently met with MTN South Sudan CEO, Monzer A. and the MTN commercial team to discuss potential partnerships. The focus of the meeting was on developing Partnerships to make smartphones more affordable and accessible to South Sudanese citizens. Both companies see a significant opportunity to drive digital inclusion by transitioning users from feature phones to smartphones, particularly with a view to expanding digital access beyond 2025. "There is an opportunity for growth with MTN," stated Mr. Lee, adding that Samsung will work with MTN to develop a collaborative plan. Samsung offers a range of smart devices, including the Galaxy AI, which utilizes artificial intelligence to enhance the user experience. Mr. Ali emphasized MTN's commitment to digital inclusion. "MTN's ambition and goal is to drive digital inclusion among all South Sudanese," he said. "We aim to increase smartphone penetration through Partnerships to make devices more readily available." MTN South Sudan anticipates a productive collaboration with Samsung that will expand the smartphone ecosystem and provide affordable smartphones to the people of South Sudan.
