This house in Namibia is built using mushrooms and invasive species! So it helps provide food for local people, whilst also giving access to low-cost housing and protecting nature at the same time! Say hello to MycoHAB designed by redhouse studio architecture. Is there anything mycelium can't do?

Thanks again Sam Bentley. We love this video!

21 startups growing sustainable bricks, concrete, insulation with mycelium There’s no getting around it – traditional construction is a polluting business. The typical lifecycle looks like this: non-renewable resources are extracted, used in structures, demolished, and sent to landfill. That’s why startups are looking at ways to avoid unnecessary extraction, shift to regenerative materials, and improve the decarbonisation of conventional materials. And frontrunners in mycelium technologies think they have the solution 🗝️ 💡 How For building materials 🧱 Startups are creating building materials such as wall panels and styrofoam alternatives using mycelium composites. For structure 🏋️ Researchers have come up with a system to create an environmentally friendly building material they call Mycocrete, combining mycelium with knitted molds. The result is a tough, adaptable structural block with high design flexibility. For living architecture 🍄 While most are using dried mycelium to create construction materials, some are seeking to use live fungi as sensors to develop an intelligent building material. Dried mycelium is inactive and incapable of responding to stimuli – but its live, functional form has potential for use in creating smart buildings that can adapt to changes in light, temperature and air pollutants. 👀 Who: BIOHM l Biop Biotech l COMU Labs l EASI ZERo l Fairm l Fungal Architectures l Hempovate l MIMBIOSIS l MOGU l MUSH l MYCEEN l Mycela Labs l MycoHAB l Mykor l MYCL | Mycotech Lab l Mycocycle, Inc. l MycoTree l NeoMyc.Insulation l okom wrks labs l Visibuilt l YcoLabs - circular building insulation.
