Very rich couple of days at ISPE 4.0 conference in Rome: insightful presentation on how different #pharma companies approach the #digitalisation challenges. Some, like Novo Nordisk, prefer a #lego approach for their new facilities: a modular approach allowing standardised equipment and processes across all sites. Other companies, like Johnson & Johnson highlighted how digitalisation delivers between 10-15% improvement in operational efficiency. However, at the end of the day, #digitalisation is as much about the processes it improves as it is about the people who drive it, and the people who use it. Malcolm Jeffers from the International Academy of Automation Engineering gave the most valuable keynote, talking about the essential roles that accelerate pharma 4.0 transformation, and highlighted their typical attributes and responsibilities- mapping them from new-in-role, to contributor, performer and go-to-expert. There are a few common grounds everyone agrees on: end #user engagement does not last, and we need to keep them engaged throughout the lifecycle of a digital solution. Also, end uses may have a different understanding of what #data means, compared to data/ product owners, therefore in a project everyone’s view needs to be taken into account. Overall, a perfect way to (almost) wrap up a year filled with learnings and new connections!
