#FMLA #WorkLifeBalance #RemoteWork #EmployeeRights Hey everyone! I just wanted to share a bit about my recent experience at work and hear your thoughts or any tips you might have! 😄 So, I got my FMLA approved super fast and I’m set for 12 weeks of paid leave. Seriously, it was such a relief! However, I hit a little bump with my boss. When I needed to take sick leave recently, he said I should have given him a heads-up. Like, how in the world can you predict when you’ll get sick? 🤷♀️ Also, have you noticed how we’re expected to cover our boss's responsibilities while they’re out, yet they have a meltdown when we take time off? 📅 It’s such a double standard! I mean, I get that managers need to manage, but they should also be able to delegate tasks. Isn’t that part of their role? 🤔 On top of this, I’m requesting remote accommodations for my job, which is totally do-able from home. My manager claims that since it’s just the two of us, he’ll end up doing all the “in-person” stuff. Bu... How Can You Navigate FMLA Leave and Boss Overreach Successfully? #CareerAdvice #StudentLife #ChangingMajors #STEM #CSMajor #LifeDecisions Hey everyone! So, I’m in a bit of a pickle right now, and I could really use your insights. I’m a junior at university, but honestly feeling like the world’s biggest failure at 23. 😓 Recently, I’ve come to the realization that Computer Science (CS) might not be my jam. Between struggling with coding and relying way too much on AI to get me through, I’m questioning if I should stick with CS or pivot to something completely different. Here’s the lowdown: 💻 I graduated from community college with an Associate's in CS this year, but I'm not sure what that even means for my future. Right now, I’m failing two classes while barely passing one with an A, so I’m not in a great place academically. Here are my potential options: Plan A: Stick it out with CS, meet with a counselor, and retake the classes I’m failing. - **Pros:** Only two more years until I get that bachelor’s. A degree can help me find a different p... At 23, Is Switching Majors from CS to a Better STEM Path Wise? Answers: https://lnkd.in/dT5ax7UV

#TechUnemployment #JobMarketReality #WageGrowth Hey everyone! 👋 Let’s talk about something that’s been on a lot of minds lately. So, we’ve got the tech unemployment sitting at just 2.7% in October, while the overall unemployment is at 4.1%. And guess what? Real wages are hitting record highs too! 📈 But here’s the million-dollar question: why doesn't the job market's "terrible" sentiment show up in these numbers? 🤔 Here are a few points to consider: Understanding the Data: A 2.7% unemployment rate in tech suggests we’re actually facing a labor shortage rather than a tight job market. So why the disconnect? Sometimes, the numbers don’t always capture the real-world experience of job seekers who are struggling despite the stats. Inflation and Real Wages: While real wages are increasing, they might not keep up with inflation rates affecting purchasing power. If wages feel stagnant in our wallets, even with record highs on paper, it can lead to frustration for many folks. 💸 ... Why Is the Tech Job Market Feels Tough Despite Low Unemployment? #WorkplaceStruggles #PerformanceReview #TrustNoOne #WorkCredit #ManipulativeColleagues Hey everyone! 😊 I wanted to share something that’s been bothering me and see if anyone can relate. Recently, I got a performance rating of "achieved all goals," but my boss told me I was actually over 100% and really close to exceeding expectations. Honestly, it feels a bit unfair. 😟 On top of that, I had a frustrating experience where someone took credit for my hard work this year. When I tried to bring it up, I was shut down and labeled a "snitch." How frustrating is that? 😤 Here are some pain points that I think contribute to situations like this: Lack of Recognition: It’s disheartening when our efforts aren’t properly acknowledged, especially when we’ve poured so much into our work. Feeling undervalued can seriously affect our motivation and job satisfaction. Manipulative Behaviour: Working alongside someone who's overly manipulative can create an unhealthy work environm... #JobSearchJourneys #RecruiterExperiences #ProfessionalGrowth Hey there! Have you ever felt like recruiters are treating you more like a kid than a professional? 🤔 I mean, I had this conversation with a friend where she mentioned how a recruiter told her she needed to greet the hiring manager with a cheerful “Good morning.” Really? 🙄 And not to mention the lecture on being punctual for the interview. Seriously, who doesn't know that? These moments can feel super frustrating. Here’s why they happen and how they can affect you: Miscommunication: Sometimes recruiters think that candidates need a bit of hand-holding, especially if they’re fresh out of school or looking to switch careers. This can come off as patronizing instead of supportive. Generational Gap: Different age groups may have varying expectations about professionalism. What seems like common sense to one person might be a new idea to another. Power Dynamics: The job search process is already stressful, and when a recruite... #Burnout #SoftwareEngineering #WorkLifeBalance Hey everyone! 😊 So, I'm curious—does anyone else out there feel like they’re constantly running on empty and just... perpetually burned out? I mean, I’ve never been the biggest fan of work, but it always felt manageable when payday rolled around. Being a software engineer usually has its perks, right? 💻 But then I landed a gig at Amazon, and wow, it was like I suddenly forgot how to be a competent human. It got to the point where I doubted my ability to even hold a casual conversation! One time, I casually said, “okay, so anything to add here? No? Anyway…” and ended up in a 30-minute chat with my manager about how that phrase should never cross my lips again. 😳 Plus, on-call chaos and the madness of returning to the office made it all feel overwhelming. I was exhausted, to say the least. Luckily, I found a new job—which I hoped would be a breath of fresh air—only to discover it was even more demanding than Amazon! They eventually let... #JobInterviews #Unprofessional #JobSearchStruggles Okay, so I have to ask — am I just overreacting, or is this whole situation downright unprofessional? 🤔 I've had three job interviews over the past couple of weeks, and honestly, it’s been a rollercoaster of frustration. Here’s the rundown: 🔹 **First up was a 7-11 interview.** I arrived 5 minutes early, excited and ready to go. But guess what? The employee at the register looked at me like I had three heads and shot back, “Oh, the woman who does interviews isn’t here today.” So, why did they remind me all day about the interview? 🤷♂️ 🔹 She didn’t even take my name or number — just sent me on my way. After calling multiple times without success, a week later, the manager finally tells me to swing by the next day for another shot. 🔹 I show up at the same time, and this new lady tells me the manager's not in again. Seriously? At this point, I'm doubting my own sanity! She gives me the manager’s number to do a PHONE interview ... Is It Insanity or Just Unprofessionalism in Job Interviews? #Debugging #Programming #LearnToCode Hey everyone! 😊 As the semester wraps up, I just wanted to share something I realized during my first computer science course. So many people say, “learn to use a debugger,” and at first, it might seem like overkill—especially if you’re working on those smaller, 20-line programs. But trust me, you’ll probably find out that you’re wrong about needing that skill sooner than you think! 😂 Once you dive into loops or explore recursion, you’ll really appreciate having debugging skills in your toolkit. I had a moment recently where I faced a challenge with loops, and I was super grateful that I took just a few minutes to learn how to use the JetBrains debugger. It saved me from a lot of frustration! Here’s why you should consider using a debugger: It’s quick to learn—around one hour will do the trick! Debuggers help you see the current values of your variables, making it easier to identify issues. They even let you trace through your code step...
