With the holiday season breathing its ginger and nutmeg scent upon us, let's address something really essential: REST! Though sleep is an important part, we also need fun and relaxation to recharge. It helps us be our best! Just above my desk sits this note from my Dad, which he sent me (with some cash) during my first year of undergrad. His simple message continued to help me during the tribulations of my PhD, and it remains an important reminder now well into my professional career. I'm grateful that I still have it after all these years. Dad's note encourages me to take moments to find joy, even when things are hard or feel insurmountable. Given how stressful our careers and after-hours doom scrolling can be, I wanted to share it with you all. In a busy world filled with jobs and financial needs, it's easy to overlook the importance of downtime. After all, we work to live! With so much stress and things to do, it's sometimes difficult to feel okay with taking it easy and caring for yourself...even if you know it's important. I know that #biotech start-up life, bringing a drug to market, making that huge #lifescience discovery, and the like are all-consuming. However, the best way to get there fast is by moving at a sustainable pace. It takes practice, but it's worth it. So, please do me a favor and cut yourself some slack! Listen to old Poppa Fisher over the next few weeks: Do something fun, rest a bit, and then get back to work. Happy Holidays Everyone!
