How hard is it to access certified potato seeds in Timau? As we wrapped up our field visit with Muguna Gakirikiri CBO in Timau yesterday, one challenge stood out clearly—many farmers in the region still struggle to access certified potato seeds. Despite well established seed players and suppliers around the region, we realised that individual and non-organised farmers are often left behind, facing significant hurdles in obtaining this critical input compared to well organised and grouped farmers. While basic economies of scale align behind the organised farmer service model, we believe a more integrated and inclusive approach could be suffice - one that ensures aspiring and non-organized potato farmers also have access to quality seeds and the resources they need to thrive. Studies confirm that limited access to certified seed is one of the biggest barriers to unlocking higher yields and better incomes for smallholder potato farmers. Without quality seed, productivity stagnates, disease cycles persist, and market competitiveness declines. With the new potato season fast approaching, we’re calling on seed suppliers, agribusinesses, and ecosystem partners serving Timau to join us in supporting this incredible Potato CBO and VSLA to prepare for a productive upcoming season. #Timau #Mzizi #Potato #Partnership #Agriculture #Potatoseed

Yesterday, we had the incredible opportunity to connect with Wedgehut Foods Ltd, an innovative potato processing enterprise passionate about potato value addition and dedicated to empowering potato farmers. During our engaging discussions with Wanjiru Mambo we identified critical challenges that many potato farmers face: access to markets, best practices and key considerations when engaging with off takers and processors, end to end agronomical literacy trainings and post-harvest handling of potatoes. Market linkage and post-harvest losses in the potato value chain interlink in the climate change vicious cycle. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Kenya potato value chain faces a formidable challenge in the form of post-harvest losses, which is exacerbated by low farmer literacy levels in post-harvest handling, inadequate storage facilities and limited market access. Post-harvest losses account for up to 30% of total potato production in Sub-Saharan Africa, representing a significant economic and environmental burden. We were happy to find out that Wedgehut Foods Ltd is leading the charge in supporting the potato value chain, targeting to transform the lives of 10,000 potato farmers through their programs and engagements. Together, we are committed to enhancing information access and equipping smallholder farmers with the tools they need to succeed. We’re excited about the opportunity to collaborate and support their vital initiatives. Stay tuned for more updates on how we plan to join forces for the betterment of the potato value chain! #Mzizi #Wedgehut #Potato #Climate #Agriculture

Yesterday, we wrapped up an incredible year of growth and impact. We've spent the last 3 months building a powerful network of Village Agriculture Connectors - brilliant young minds who are bringing our digital agtech to rural farmers across Kenya. Witnessing the digital agriculture revolution unfold before our eyes is truly inspiring! Our elderly farmers are embracing technology, and our youth are finding meaningful employment. A HUGE shoutout to our outstanding Connectors, Michael and Leah! 👏 You've shattered local barriers and are empowering a thriving community of farmers in Nakuru. We are incredibly proud of your dedication and the positive impact you're creating. #Mziziwrapped

Did you know? A staggering 60% of Agroshops and Agrodealers are still stuck in the past—operating offline, missing out on massive growth opportunities in today’s digital world. While the spotlight has been on farmer digitization, Agrodealer digitization is just as crucial to boomerang farmers into embracing digital technologies. We recognize this crucial gap and we are stepping up to make sure agrodealers aren’t left behind. Next Wednesday, we are hosting an exclusive Rural Agrodealer Digitization Training Program designed to expand the growth of Agrodealers and Agroshops across Nakuru! We believe Agrodealers deserve to operate without limits. Through our innovative Online Agrodealer Management System, we balance accountability and productivity, helping each Agrodealer to unlock new opportunities and thrive in the era of data-driven agriculture. The future of agriculture is digital, and it’s time for Agroshops and Agrodealers to redefine their boundaries. Join us and embrace this transformative journey! https://lnkd.in/dYMaQQzP
