When building "fields of dreams", perhaps right-sizing the solution before you spend many, many, millions of dollars on overpowered technology monuments, e-Grocers should consider that the promised 1000+ orders per day is not materializing! A quick discussion with anyone familiar with e-Grocery orders will inform you that the order number per location has been stagnant at 200 to 450 orders/day in most cases. When you can't effectively articulate the benefits of e-Grocery to your customers, and make it an attractive proposition, you will never reach the velocity goals required to build these complex and expensive behemoths. With Kroger's closures, we see that several things are clear; 1) The number of customer orders required to provide an ROI has not yet materialized. Perhaps a marketing campaign, or three, highlighting the consumer-side benefits of e-Grocery/BOPIS would bump up the daily order count? So far, we have seen no real attempts at marketing #microfulfillment to the consumer. 2) The fact that these technology monuments are not portable puts the value of the equipment in failed e-Grocery attempts at or near scrap value. 3) The risk of failure has been apparent for some time now. A quick discussion with anyone who has tried micro/maxi/mega e-Grocery fulfillment will inform you of a litany of downsides...someone is asleep at the wheel! 4) One-size does not fit every grocer or every location. There has to be a "crawl, walk, run" approach to every potential site. Scanning or Pick by Light for the crawl solution, our #NanoFC for the walk solution, and shuttles/cube automation reserved for only high-velocity situations. When looked at from this perspective, it allows you to move to a faster solution when the order quantity calls for it. Both scanning and #NanoFC solutions are portable...no risk of building monuments where failure results in scrap. https://lnkd.in/gfyKX347

When it comes to e-Grocery solutions, it's important to consider all options. Instead of opting for behemoth, complex, and expensive options, take a look at affordable, portable, and less risky in-store/on-site solutions. These options are sure to give e-Grocers a roadmap to success. Check out #NanoFC, #Nanofulfillment, #rightsize, and #Microfulfillment for potential solutions. Don't let the news of failures deter you from exploring these promising options. Thanks to Cuhaci Peterson® for producing this work of art. Also thank you Phononic Inc for bringing tri-temperature storage to our fulfillment solutions.

That's a wrap! What an amazing time we had at #modex2024 . It was great to meet up with colleagues, vendors, friends, and especially customers both old and new. If we didn't get to see you, please reach out. Our little @Nanofulfillment booth was packed most days and we are blessed to have connected to so many companies who now understand how retailers can embrace and leverage #hyperlocal inventory placement with tools from Nanofulfillment, Inc. that make both sense and profit. In addition our Francisco Serrano was onstage with Steven M. Duffy, AIA GGP, Cuhaci Peterson®, and Dana Krug, Phononic Inc discussing and showing what the future of grocery can look like for grocers interested in #omnichannel as a profit center. An excellent session let by the amazing Rueben Scriven of Interact Analysis. #nanofulfillment #nanofc #microfulfillment #lastmilelogistics
