Liver Education Advocates (formerly NASH kNOWledge) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation that was established to increase public awareness of liver health, specifically fatty liver disease. We collaborate with organizations across the country and globally with similar goals. We are patients and caregivers advocating for other patients and caregivers.
The magnitude of fatty liver and NASH/MASH cannot be overstated. The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases estimates that 100 million Americans have fatty liver and that about 20% of those people have NASH/MASH. These diseases are particularly insidious because there are typically no symptoms associated at the onset and the general public is not even aware of the disease. The truly scary part of this is that incidences of fatty liver continue to grow with no end in sight.
Even worse, our future generation is at risk with nearly 10% of kids having a fatty liver mainly due to increased consumption of sugar and processed foods.
Media coverage of this problem has become more commonplace but it is still relatively unknown to most of our population.
Liver Education Advocates is focused on raising more awareness through public speaking engagements, information booths at events, infographics, animated videos and our documentary, "Silent Epidemic: the liver disease NASH."
