Karen Hutchins, J.D., CAE is this week's Bar Star. Karen has served as the Executive Director of the Arkansas Bar Association for nearly 20 years and is a true leader both locally and nationally. In her role as Executive Director of the Arkansas Bar Association she has focused on three major initiatives including: - Leading volunteers decisively to formulate solutions to achieve goals and implement initiatives. - Communicating persuasively to create a collaborative outreach to members and the public and - Astute financial planning and accountability when challenged with difficult prioritization of resources. Additionally, she successfully transitioned the association’s governance structure from a bifurcated House of Delegates and Board of Governor’s structure to a single Board of Trustees governance structure. This allowed the association to make quick decisive responses to issues while creating increased member engagement and efficient use of limited resources. She created a Paralegals’ membership that is member attorney supervised which led to partnerships with new organizations for educational programing and additional revenue and expanded the association’s legislative program to evaluate the effects of proposed legislation which assist non-attorneys in the legislature. This effort helped balance the effect of fewer lawyers serving in the legislature state-wide. Karen served on the NABE Board for 9 years including serving as NABE President. Her volunteer roles in her local community include service as a board member and President of the Arkansas Society of Association Executives. She also chaired the Arkansas SAE Economic Impact Study which provided data to the Arkansas Department of Economic Development. Karen also serves on the Board of Trustees for the Highland Valley United Methodist Church and as a member of the organization's Endowment Subcommittee. Additionally, she served on the Task Force on Intellectual Property for the United Methodist Church Arkansas Conference. #BarStars #noplacelikeNABE #barassociations
