About us
Since 1988, the National Center on Education and the Economy (NCEE) has been researching the world’s best-performing education systems to give states and districts the tools they need to become world class. NCEE has been a leader in U.S. education from policy to practice, producing reports that have led to landmark national legislation, supporting states in redesigning their education systems, and providing rigorous, proven supports to more education leaders than any other organization. NCEE’s dedicated, diverse, and experienced staff are working with teachers, school leaders, district leadership teams, and state policy makers to create a new system of education and return the U.S. to the top of the world education ranks.

Education leadership plays a crucial role in shaping learning outcomes. #EdLeaders connect policies to classrooms, support teachers, and keep students at the center of progress. Global examples like Ontario’s leadership training and Kenya’s curriculum support officers show their potential to drive real change. But challenges like unclear roles and limited training hold them back. To truly improve education, we need to invest in their growth and support. Honored to partner on the GEM Report UNESCO exploring the influence of school leaders on student outcomes. https://lnkd.in/g-h3vsWh #LeadershipMatters #SDG4 #SustainableDevelopmentGoals #TogetherInEd #EdLeadership

At the beginning of 2024, we published a guest blog post from Dr. Vicki Phillips, CEO of the National Center on Education and the Economy (NCEE), reflecting on some of the big issues she believed would shape education this year. This week, we invited Dr. Phillips to take a look back and reflect on these issues once again. Here's what she shared with us: https://ow.ly/GsE950UjuSU

Research shows that an effective principal can improve school culture and reduce teacher turnover—creating environments where students learn more. According to The Wallace Foundation, leadership development has a larger impact on student achievement than any other district-wide initiative. Our panel, "Having Our Say: How True Change Happens Through Collaboration," at the NATIONAL ALLIANCE OF BLACK SCHOOL EDUCATORS (NABSE) 2024 Conference was packed with energy, insights, and inspiring moments. I had the absolute pleasure of co-presenting with the amazing Shanequa Yates, Tauheedah F. Baker-Jones, Ed.L.D., and Jamie Downs — leaders who are making waves in education and paving the way for brighter futures for students. Our discussion highlighted the power of collaboration between school districts and our organizations, offering practical strategies and best practices to create scalable, lasting impact. The conversations were rich, the passion was real, and the connections we made will keep this work moving forward. It was also a joy to reconnect with friends and former colleagues—it reminded me of the power of staying connected and lifting each other up. I look forward to future opportunities to share our learning.
