Active Guard and Reserve personnel on Title 32 orders will soon be eligible for the first time to participate in flexible spending accounts to help pay for dependent care and health care, defense officials told NGAUS last week. A common benefit for civilians, certain Guardsmen will be allowed to place pretax earnings into a special account to cover certain expenses, thereby reducing their taxable income and increasing the buying power of their paychecks. https://lnkd.in/efNHMFRE

Statement by retired Maj. Gen. Francis M. McGinn, NGAUS president, on the Senate confirmation of the next chief of the National Guard Bureau: “On behalf of the more than 45,000 members of the National Guard Association of the United States, I commend the Senate for moving quickly today on confirming Lieutenant General Steven S. Nordhaus as the next chief of the National Guard Bureau. "We look forward to him receiving his fourth star and formally taking his place as the 30th NGB chief and his seat the Joint Chiefs of Staff. We are even more eager to begin working with him on bettering our nearly 400-year-old institution that has served our states and nation so well.”

"Congress is poised to adopt language in the annual National Defense Authorization Act that would override governors’ authority over National Guard units. Adoption would seriously damage our national security, imperil military readiness, and infringe upon longstanding gubernatorial authority over National Guard units.," writes Maj. Gen. Francis M. McGinn. The good news, he adds, is Congress has a chance to change course. https://lnkd.in/eDaGFfXd

September is #SuicidePreventionMonth, a topic very close to my heart. Lt. Gen. Jon Stubbs, acting chief of the National Guard Bureau, and I are united in this fight with you. Suicide affects every one of us, whether we are personally struggling or know someone who has died by suicide. It is imperative that we all stay vigilant to the signs of someone at risk for ourselves and those around us. The effectiveness of a resource depends on those who utilize it. Everyone is empowered to be a walking recruiter, a mentor, or an outreach to one of the many resources the DoD offers. If you have a beating heart, and you care about those serving to your left and your right, go out there and be that friend. You don’t have to be in a leadership role or have the right number of stripes to lead people into a better situation. If you’re struggling, please call 988, text 838255 or go to https://lnkd.in/gMRJPV38.
