Join NIA on March 12-13 for a two-day workshop on Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging in Alzheimer’s Disease and Alzheimer’s Disease-Related Dementias. This workshop will bring together scientists, clinicians, and researchers to discuss: •The role of PET imaging in clinical practice, human research studies, and translational applications •Current gaps and urgent needs in PET tracer development •New biomarkers and their impact on understanding AD/ADRD •How PET imaging can be combined with other approaches to study pathophysiology and brain Learn more about this workshop and how to register: https://lnkd.in/erbJTK9i #NIHAging #PETImaging #AlzheimersResearch #Dementia #Neuroimaging

National Institute on Aging (NIA) reposted this
Dementia affects more than 6 million Americans and accounts for more than 100,000 deaths each year. A new analysis reports that an estimated 42% of Americans over age 55 will eventually develop dementia, and new dementia cases will likely double over the next four decades. The findings highlight the importance of taking steps to promote healthy aging. https://lnkd.in/gwPiPnmH #dementia #aging #HealthyAging #research #NIH

To investigate if senolytic drugs — drugs that clear out senescent cells — could improve bone health in older women, NIA-funded researchers conducted a clinical trial of 60 postmenopausal women ages 62-88. After twenty weeks, the scientists found that using senolytic products to reverse the effects of aging in humans has a subtle effect, despite earlier promising evidence from mouse studies. To better understand how aging affects the body, researchers from NIA and the Spanish National Cancer Research Center in Madrid developed a mouse model that mirrors key features of human aging, including systemic inflammation and organ deterioration. The NIA-funded researchers found that targeting white blood cell accumulation in response to inflammatory signals could be a promising strategy for mitigating age-related health decline. Learn more about this study and if targeting this process can slow aging: https://lnkd.in/eyEf8EeK #NIAFunded #NIHAging #WhiteBloodCells #Inflammation #AgingResearch
