Advancing kidney health for those living with CKD through prevention, education, research, advocacy and empowerment
About us
The National Kidney Foundation of Illinois improves the health and well-being of people at risk for or affected by kidney disease through prevention, education and empowerment. In 1949, the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois began as a small but mighty group of parents desperate to find a way to save their children from dying of childhood nephrosis. The National Kidney Foundation of Illinois has since evolved into a multi-faceted non-profit organization that provides educational programs and support for individuals living with kidney disease and their families, continuing education programs for healthcare professionals, and advocacy to advance initiatives that directly affect the care and treatment of chronic kidney disease. The National Kidney Foundation of Illinois is an affiliate of the National Kidney Foundation based in New York, NY. The National Kidney Foundation and its affiliates and divisions fund more than one third of all medical research for kidney disease performed in the U.S. The Illinois affiliate is a leader in educating the public about the prevention of kidney disease through its KidneyMobile® , which offers free screenings for diabetes, high blood pressure and chronic kidney disease. 🎉 This year, our KidneyMobile team screened 1,696 people at 46 free kidney health screenings from March to November! 🩺 Early detection is key, and we’re proud to help our communities take charge of their health. We are so grateful for all of our KidneyMobile volunteers and partners who make it possible for us to screen people across the state year after year. We'll hit the road again on World Kidney Day, March 13. 2025 is the 20th anniversary of the KidneyMobile! We are excited to bring free screenings for kidney disease, diabetes and high blood pressure to even more communities next year.

National Kidney Foundation of Illinois reposted this
SSHCO attended the Gift of Hope Organ & Tissue Donor Network Open House on Tuesday, where our CEO, Kimberly Hobson, MBA, was honored to speak. The event took place at the Jackie D. Lynch building, named for a leader whose compassion and dedication helped shape Gift of Hope's mission. This historic building, once the site of Independence Bank—the first to provide loans to Black residents—is now home to SSHCO, Gift of Hope, the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois, and Chicago State University. We’re proud to have such inspiring neighbors in this iconic space! 💙 #HealthierSouthSide #NewBeginnings
