About us

The National Kidney Foundation of Wisconsin (NKFW) has been serving Wisconsin for over 50 years. Our mission is to prevent kidney disease, improve the health and well-being of individuals and families affected by this disease and increase the availability of ALL organs for transplantation. The National Kidney Foundation of Wisconsin (NKFW) conducts programs in research, professional education, patient and community services, public education and organ donation. The NKFW is a Better Business Bureau Accredited Charity. Nationwide: - 1 in 3 adults is at risk for kidney disease because of diabetes or high blood pressure - 1 in 7 adults has kidney disease but most don’t know it (Called a “silent killer” because it has no early recognizable symptoms) - Kidney disease is the 9th leading cause of death In Wisconsin: - More than 1,600 men, women, and children are waiting for a kidney transplant (OPTN data) - 6,696 men, women and children rely on dialysis to live - 4,627 women and men are kidney transplant recipients
