NOAH provides accurate and authoritative information about living with albinism, acceptance, fellowship and support.

About us

Founded in 1982, NOAH serves the albinism community by providing information and support. NOAH’s mission is to act as a conduit for accurate and authoritative information about all aspects of living with albinism and to provide a place where people with albinism and their families in the U.S. and Canada can find acceptance, support and fellowship. We envision a world where people with albinism are empowered to be fully-functioning members of society, where barriers and the stigma of difference no longer exist, and where people with albinism have a quality of life that is rewarding, dignified and fulfilling.

Updates

  • We are sad to share the news of the passing of Mike McGowan, a dedicated advocate for the albinism community. Mike started his service to the albinism community as leader in the local Northern Illinois NOAH community more than three decades ago, then expanded his role nationally by serving as a NOAH board member. He went on to serve as board President and finally as NOAH's first Executive Director. Mike’s vision and leadership were instrumental in shaping the organization and the programs and services that continue to support people with albinism and their families today. In his most recent role with the Global Albinism Alliance, Mike’s unwavering passion for serving people with albinism remained at the forefront of his work. His commitment to improving the lives of others and his advocacy for the community earned him the admiration and respect of colleagues and friends alike. Mike's leadership and tireless dedication to the albinism community will be remembered by all who knew him. His impact will be felt for generations to come. On behalf of the NOAH organization and the many friends within our community, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his loved ones during this difficult time. https://lnkd.in/euX5eE5c

  • NOAH Connects with UNIE in Atlanta, Georgia During her recent visit to the United States, Muluka-Anne Miti-Drummond, the UN Independent Expert on the enjoyment of human rights for people with albinism, traveled to Atlanta, Georgia. There, she engaged with several members of the NOAH community, who shared their experiences living with albinism in the U.S. These important insights will inform a comprehensive report that the Independent Expert plans to present to the Human Rights Council in March 2025.
