The Great American Outdoors Act’s Legacy Restoration Fund helped address deferred maintenance needs across national parks through fiscal year 2025. The act has also supported 72,560 jobs and contributed $8 billion to our nation’s GDP! Yesterday, Senators Steve Daines (R-MT), Angus King (I-ME), Kevin Cramer (R-ND), and Mark Warner (D-VA) introduced the “America the Beautiful Act.” The bill would reauthorize the Legacy Restoration Fund and increase funding for public land management. Service corps crews work on some of the most important projects in national parks – things like trail maintenance, tree planting, habitat restoration, and installing park infrastructure. This year, NPF invested $5.8 million to support 47 service corps projects across the country, which engage young adults while they explore future careers, gain practical field skills, and develop confidence as leaders. 🔨 Have you heard about the Women+ in Trades crew from Appalachian Conservation Corps? This unique program provides a safe space for participants to learn, grow, and build their careers in historical restoration and conservation! 🌿 This year’s crew, based in Shenandoah National Park, is gaining valuable project support and hands-on skills while contributing to vital restoration efforts. They camp overnight, working outdoors in all weather conditions—rain or shine!—performing manual labor on projects such as re-mortaring stonework, stone masonry, painting, trail construction, and refurbishing historic Civilian Conservation Corps cabins in the park! 🏞️✨ Check out some pictures to see the action! 📸✨ Appalachian Conservation Corps National Park Foundation

Over the next three years, NPF supported science fellows are conducting research projects prioritizing climate change adaptation, conservation, visitor use, and biodiversity in parks across the country. One of these fellows, Dr. James Lamping, is working with the North Coast and Cascades Inventory & Monitoring Network and five NPS sites. His research focuses on managing unprecedented fires in wet forests, including fuel treatments in ancient forests and targeted fire suppression to safeguard salmon-bearing streams.
