NPCA's Kristen Brengel sat down with WBUR Here and Now to talk about the real implications of recent Park Service staffing cuts, for park staff and visitors alike. especially as spring breaks approach. This six-minute segment packs a punch and clears up misinformation — you don't want to miss it. "A Park Service staff person may be hired to do interpretation but because of high visitation they're managing traffic and cleaning bathrooms... We can't stand for this anymore. We need these jobs restored." #WBUR #StaffingCuts #NationalParkNews #parkfunding #parkprotection #parkadvocate

It's with intense gratitude we share stories from some of the 1,000+ National Park Service staff terminated via email on February 14. Their stories contain frustration, anger, evaporated dreams and concern for the future of our parks. “For anyone who has ever earned the honor to wear the green and gray, it represents often years of dedication, setbacks, and toil at low wages in order to prove that you have the chops to work at the National Park Service," -Angela Moxley, former botanist at Harpers Ferry National Historical Park Angela's full story, as well as others, are in our new blog post.

The Trump administration isn't just harming our national parks, it's harming the very people who make it possible: park staff. As part of massive cuts across the federal government, more than 1,000 National Park Service staff lost their jobs on the precipice of national parks’ busiest season. National Park Service staff are the heartbeat of national parks, and are essential to the special places millions of Americans visit every year. Visitors from around the world come to our national parks expecting once-in-a-lifetime experiences, but parks can't provide those experiences without proper staffing. In our latest video, NPCA's in-house experts share what these cuts mean for parks, staff and visitors. #nationalparknews #parkstaff #jobcuts

Celebrating park protection impacts, we’re introducing a new series by Yellowstone Bourbon and National Parks Conservation Association! The California desert is alive, teeming with wildlife and protected from natural and human-based threats thanks to conservation advocates like Luke Basulto. Chuckwalla National Monument was designated in early 2025, a profound victory that protects more than 620,000 acres of land. Partnered since 2018, Yellowstone Bourbon is one of NPCA’s largest annual corporate donors; this year, we’re celebrating them donating a total of $1,000,000 to NPCA to protect national parks and inspire the next generation of park advocates. The Park Service staffing cuts over the last two weeks will have deep consequences for years to come. Kristen Brengel, NPCA's Senior Vice President of Government Affairs, spoke to The Associated Press about how the Trump administration's actions “are pushing an already overwhelmed Park Service to its breaking point." In the short term we'll see piled up trash, forgotten restrooms, and growing maintenance issues, along with more limited facilities, like visitor centers and campgrounds. #NationalParkNews #StaffingCuts #ParkService #ProtectOurParks

"I have an old T-shirt from Zion National Park that says, ‘Save What You Love,’ and I think that captures the heart of it. A ranger’s role is to spark a deep admiration of place to help protect it for the future… and then to spread that stewardship to other places as well.” We asked current NPCA staff who used to wear the green and gray about unforgettable memories working for the Park Service and what they want most for today's park staff, especially in the face of a vastly reduced park staff. #StandWithGreenAndGray #NationalParks #ProtectOurParks #ParkProtector

This is not okay. Park staff work every single day to make sure our nation's most precious natural and historic places are protected for us. They keep us safe. They teach us. They do important research to help parks thrive for generations to come. The impacts of these cuts won't be temporary. Staff are the heartbeat of parks and local economies. The good news? You can join NPCA in telling Congress to stand up for park staff and roll back today's devastating job cuts. Head to npca.org/1000jobs and we'll add your voice to our call on Congress. #NPS #NationalParkNews #ParkStaff #ActionAlert #ProtectParkStaff #ParkProtector

Relief of National Park Seasonal Hiring Overshadowed by Reckless Staff Cuts

We sent out our valentines a day early so we could spend today telling you about something we truly love: our national monuments. Last week, newly-confirmed Interior Secretary Doug Burgum issued the Secretarial Order “Unleashing American Energy,” calling for a 15-day internal review of oil, gas and mining on public lands, including national monuments designated under the Antiquities Act. This is a dangerous step towards dismantling protections for national monuments in favor of unrestrained and speculative fossil fuel and mining development, even though many of these areas have been protected for over a century. NPCA's review of the order identified key monuments at risk of losing federal protections, with devastating and lasting impacts. The at-risk monuments include Natural Bridges National Monument (pictured), Devils Tower National Monument, Dinosaur National Monument, Hovenweep National Monument, Baaj Nwaavjo I’tah Kukveni, Bears Ears National Monument and more. If we lose these places to oil and gas development, we forfeit a century-old legacy that we will not pass on to our grandchildren. We can’t let that happen on our watch. You can help: head to npca.org/nodrilling to call on Secretary Burgum to maintain federal protections for these precious places.
