To open NationSwell Summit 2024, NationSwell Founder and CEO Greg Behrman sat with Julián Castro, CEO of Latino Community Foundation for a reflective Fireside Chat. In his closing remarks, Castro urged us to “live by our values” and lead with purpose. His advice resonated deeply with those of us working to create systemic change: to be strategic, to be bold, and to be unwavering in the pursuit of equity and justice. #NationSwellSummit #HopeinAction For more on Julián Castro's vision for bold, values-driven leadership in the social impact space, read our recap: https://lnkd.in/eX67eqxC

"I think the biggest challenge that moms are facing and quite frankly, parents are facing, is the lack of affordable childcare, period." - Reshma Saujani, Founder and CEO, Moms First At this year's NationSwell Summit, Reshma joined Jennifer Stybel from Pivotal Ventures, Lindsay Jurist-Rosner from Wellthy, and Stephan Dolling from Merck for a critical discussion on supporting parents & caregivers in the workplace. It's time for businesses to step up. Period.
What’s the biggest issue working parents face? Two words: Child care. Last month, our own Reshma Saujani took the stage at NationSwell’s Summit alongside fellow caregiving champions — Lindsay Jurist-Rosner (Wellthy), Stephan Dolling (Merck), and Jennifer Stybel (Pivotal Ventures) — to make one thing very clear: the workplace of tomorrow hinges on how we tackle the care crisis today. Here are some key takeaways: 🔑 Caregiving is not a niche issue — 73% of workers in the U.S. have some type of caregiving responsibility 🔑 Childcare benefits are just good business sense — they drive retention, employee satisfaction, boost company culture...the benefits pretty much pay for themselves 🔑 The business community has a powerful role to play, not only to expand child care benefits for their employees but to ensure that policymakers invest in child care as the critical workforce issue it is The child care crisis isn't going to solve itself, and we are so proud to be part of the growing community pushing for real change for moms everywhere! P.S. Be sure to check out NationSwell’s Case for Childcare Collaborative for resources and easy-to-navigate solutions to help employers invest in childcare benefits for all of their workers: https://lnkd.in/eyG2epP6 #ChildCare #NationSwell #Economy #BusinessNews #Workplace

"The future is ours to shape. If we embrace the idea that hope is a practice, technology becomes more than a tool; it becomes a way to exercise hope in action and build the future we want to see!" Two weeks ago, I joined the NationSwell Community to share my vision for how technology can serve as a force for equity, justice, and human dignity. It’s tempting to think of AI as an inevitability, a force that will shape our future on its own. But AI is just a reflection of our humanity, mirroring the principles, values, and systems we choose to embed in it. The real challenge isn’t the technology itself - the challenge lies in the systems we’ve created to guard against inequality and injustice that are under strain. AI can either deepen those fractures or help us reimagine and rebuild something better. The question isn’t what AI will do, but whether we choose to do great things with AI. Thank you, Greg Behrman, for your leadership and for building a space where change-makers can be inspired to reflect, connect, and drive change! #AI #HopeInAction #NationSwell #FutureWeShape

Thank you to Maria Kim of REDF for inspiring us all at NationSwell Summit with her Impact Spotlight. 💡
If #TED had a baby, it would be a lightning talk - one that pushes you to be vulnerable and vocal, to use your voice as you live into your vocation, to step out on faith that if you take a leap, a net will miraculously appear. Thanks to the beautiful community at NationSwell, I had the gift of repping REDF as I shared such a talk on reframing how we think about this notion of lived experience (of barriers like #homelessness, #poverty, or justice system impact) and instead reframe it as #livedexpertise. Or the things in our lives that we've done or that have been to us that ultimately push us to become who we beautifully, gloriously, affirmatively are. Lived expertise is alive and well in #employment #socialenterprises around the country, and it was a true honor to be able to share why. This one's dedicated to my friend Raahsaan Brown who teaches me everyday we are not the sum total of our past, but the infinite possibility of who we are and who we become with each experience along the way. #InclusiveEconomy https://lnkd.in/gsCF9VJ7

This holiday season, as packages pile up on our doorsteps, consider the incredible frontline workers who make our gift-giving possible—especially the working parents balancing job demands with childcare demands. Now consider that frontline workers represent about 70% of the workforce - yet only 14% of full-time workers and 8% of part-time workers have access to employer-sponsored childcare support. So what's the real gift that keeps on giving? Employers supporting working families. Hear from SaVaughn Pembrook about UPS's childcare benefit from Patch Caregiving, offering low-cost child supervision while their employees are hard at work.
