About us

National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (National VOAD) is an organization that promotes the open access to data and resources throughout the disaster cycle—preparation, response and recovery—to help disaster survivors and their communities. Members of National VOAD focus on all stages of disaster response – preparedness, relief, response, recovery, and mitigation and are behind the recovery from natural and human-caused disasters in the United States and its territories. National VOAD was formed in 1970 following Hurricane Camille, which struck the Gulf Coast in 1969. Almost 40 years later, in 2008, the 50 member organizations provided more than $200 million dollars in direct financial assistance and more than seven million hours of volunteer labor in helping disaster-affected communities.
