About us
The Navy League of the United States (NLUS) was founded in 1902 with the encouragement of President Theodore Roosevelt. The Navy League has provided a powerful voice for a stronger sea service to Congress and to the American people. The Navy League has grown into the foremost citizens' organization to serve, support, and stand with all the sea services – U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S.-flag Merchant Marine. The Navy League is comprised of 40,000 civilians in more than 240 councils around the world working to support sea service members and their families. We do this through a variety of education programs that remind our fellow citizens that the United States is a maritime nation whose national economic and security interests are inextricably tied to the freedom of the seas. The Navy League has three missions: to enhance the morale of active duty personnel and their families; to inform Congress and the American public on the importance of strong sea services; and to support youth through programs such as the Naval Sea Cadet Corps, Junior ROTC and Young Marines that expose young people to the values of our sea services. Over the years, the Navy League has compiled an impressive record of accomplishment. Today the Navy League is widely respected by citizens, community and industrial leaders, and public officials. Navy League programs are welcomed in communities throughout the nation, and members are recognized for their integrity and patriotism.

🚨NEW: Office of the United States Trade Representative Report on China's Targeting of the Maritime, Logistics, and Shipbuilding Sectors for Dominance The results of a months-long investigation into Chinese shipbuilding practices by the Office of the United States Trade Representative have just been released. According to outgoing USTR, Ambassador Katherine Tai, “Beijing’s targeted dominance of these sectors [referring to shipbuilding] undermines fair, market-oriented competition, increases economic security risks, and is the greatest barrier to revitalization of U.S. industries, as well as the communities that rely on them. These findings under Section 301 set the stage for urgent action to invest in America and strengthen our supply chains.” Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/eBsW_eAv

#CouncilSpotlight 🔦 - Navy League of the United States, Sarasota-Manatee Council. Just before the new year, Sarasota-Manatee Council Vice President Lorna N. Ow-Elroy and Secretary Jerry St. Germain presented Navy League awards to the USCGC Resolute’s past three Sailors of the Quarter during a ceremony on the flight deck. The council also celebrated several other sailors who achieved designation certificates, promotions, and medals, highlighting the outstanding dedication and achievements of the crew. The entire Navy League extends its heartfelt congratulations to the awardees and best wishes to the entire crew on their next deployment. Bravo Zulu! The Sarasota-Manatee Council stands as a shining example of how a Navy League council can truly embody our organization’s mission. Over the past year, despite facing challenges like Hurricane Milton, they have excelled in strengthening connections, fostering community support, and championing the brave men and women who serve in the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marine. Thanks to the proactive efforts of the Board Engagement Committee, they recognized the importance of rallying around the sea services community during a critical time. By building meaningful relationships with local units and addressing the needs of those who serve, the Sarasota-Manatee Council serves as a powerful reminder of the impact a dedicated Navy League council can have—not just on the individuals they support, but on the broader community. They truly exemplify what it means to "stand by those who stand watch." #NavyLeague #Sarasota #Florida #USCG #SailoroftheQuarter

Today we reflect on and honor the life of President Jimmy Carter, 39th president of the United States. He lived a life of servitude before, during and after his time in office. A U.S. Navy submariner, President Carter served his country for seven years before returning to his family farm in Georgia, but his desire to make the world a better place did not stop there. Throughout his political career, President Carter fought for equality no matter one's gender or race, becoming a Georgia state senator, governor and eventually the leader of our country. After his time in office, he continued his diplomatic work, advocating for peace around the world. President Carter exemplifies the core standards of the U.S. Navy, the sea services and the American spirit. May he rest in peace with this wife, Eleanor Rosalynn.
