Today marks two months since Hurricane Helene swept through Western North Carolina causing unimaginable destruction from the high flood levels. One of our members, Lake Lure Flowering Bridge (LLFB) lost all 30 gardens, and the floods swept away hundreds of commemorative bricks. These bricks honored loved ones, friends, or beloved pets and added sentimental value. Volunteers worked tirelessly clearing silt and dirt to recover nearly 400 commemorative bricks. The exact count at this time is 398 out of the 724 bricks have been recovered. The bricks were placed in their original location. The volunteers have come from all over North Carolina to assist in the recovery of LLFB and slowly returning it to its former glory. Spokes of Hope Faith Responders from both North and South Carolina brought 40 volunteers to assist in digging out the garden paths, clearing debris, and pressure-washed the paths. The cherished Rainbow Bridge was also washed away during the hurricane and sadly, there are no plans to rebuild it at this time. They are focusing on recovering the gardens. We are thinking about our members and so very grateful for the dozens of volunteers working long hours to help LLFB. We will keep you all updated as we learn news. #GoPublicGardens #PublicGarden #PublicGardens #lakelure #lakelurefloweringbridge #northcarolina #hurricanehelene
